…Something about a bridge… ~Ted
First off, the break between new episodes seemed like an eternity. Enough about me though…How did you like Oh Honey?
Katy Perry. I know casting stars like her serves a point, inviting in new fans and such. I mean I remember when there was uncertain talk about the future of HIMYM and then shortly after an appearance from another pop star, all that talk went away. I get it, good ratings mean you get more time to tell your story, and no matter how much we bitch and moan we all love the story or we wouldn’t waste our time on it. Some of the guests we love, other we can’t wait to leave. With that said, I had very low expectations for KP and honestly, she wasn’t bad. I felt she played the part of honey very well and was nice to look at too. While I doubt we see her again given she is another “Bla Bla” that Old Ted can’t place the name, she played into the scope of this episode really well. However, now I’m still left to wonder what the whole story was. On the good side, it seems she is going to be on LOST…
Zoey. I know all of you have very mixed feelings about Zoey (Jennifer Morrison). I liked her on House and I like her now. However, the end of this episode made me really not want to write a recap. Let me explain, no there is too much…let me sum up. I’m on the record as stating that Zoey is not the mother (ref: I talk about this at the end of Natural History). And if I could have been at the superbowl screaming from the center of the stadium that statement then I would have. However, after the closing of ‘Oh Honey’, it’s already blowing up on twitter from fans who either don’t pay attention or don’t believe it. Sure, it’s something to talk about, but more than that I’m curious on how it advances the story. And if you believe, like I do, that Zoey isn’t the mother then what is she doing here? Will she play a part in getting Ted to his best man toast we saw during Big Days?
Marshall. Even though the night ended on Ted, Marshall was still the focus in my opinion. He is still at his Mom’s house since the funeral of his father and evidentially he isn’t the only one. I thought for sure once his brother punched him, Murder Train was going to start playing. Let’s get this straight: mayonnaise aside, the Eriksen family is just cool.
Barney. Ted & Barney both have big revelations in this episode but overall the rest of the cast really seemed to stay in the background tonight. I did love the way they wove in and out of it though. Let’s mention Barney for a moment. I would say his story about tonight may have been the furthest from the truth, but we do learn from Honey that he sent his dad a letter. We kind of figured (like the Ted & Zoey hookup) that this was going to happen sometime in the future and to me it continues to signal a change that’s happening with Barney. I mean, really, he’s with freaking Katy Perry and he starts crying about his dad… that’s not the Barney I remember.
Drama. I love a lot of what Bays, Thomas and the writers are doing with the show, but this is a comedy. Anyone feel a little much drama or is is perfect in your opinion?
Moments of Awesomeness
- Marshall’s family. I love the way they break into the conversation, eavesdrop and then help with connecting the dots.
- I LOVE Marshall’s Loch Ness poster! I’m trying to find one to go beside my Awesomeness Poster!
- The Captain = Colonel Mustard… and why shouldn’t he? Though I do wish Ted or Robin were there to salute.
Legendary Lines
Ted: I’d say hump her brains out, but somebody obviously already has.
Marcus (Marshall’s Brother): Would you like a hurt’s doughnut?
Barney: It’s called body language. Remember when she was touching your arm and leaning in real close? While that was happening the straw in her drink was pointing right at me.
Lily: Yeah there is no use hiding it. I hate you…b…itch
Barney: I hope I can pass this hot dog.
Barney: Bored the pants very much on her
The Re-Return
Ted’s Nosy neighbor reports to her former neighbor Marshall.
Lingering Questions
- What will reconnecting with his father mean for Barney? Do you see a change coming?
- What really happened tonight? I hate to say it but despite being gullible, Honey seemed to have the closest story to the truth.
- I’m sticking with my “Zoey is not the mother” statement, but where is this relationship going? Is it significant?
That’s all I have until I hear from you, what did you think?
I don’t know if it was just me, but I loved the return of the Intervention banner. That was one of the highlights of this episode for me.
I think it is a perfect amount of drama. At first, I was upset they made Barney all over the top with his crying about his dad, but then I realized it was perfect for the show. It advanced the dramatic storyline in a funny way; Perfect HIMYM. I agree, I love the Erikson family. I think this episode worked really well. I’m curious to see where the Ted and Zoe story line goes.
I totally forgot that! And I even wrote it down on my notes. I love the intervention banner!
I’m with you…I love the dramatic story in a funny way. On the Ted & Zoey line, you think she’s the mother? I thought about running a poll…but given my stance I figured it would seem hypocritical 😉
Hmm, so, finally ted n zoey are in relationship. I wonder if Zoey will break Ted’s heart by coming back with the Captain as in episode 17, the Captain will return? I really don’t think Zoey is the one.
I love crying Barney, takes me back to Season 1’s “Game Night.”
I think a lot of hardcore fans expected something to happen with Zoey and Ted, in all honesty I thought it was going to happen sooner than it did. It kind of sucks though, because I really like Zoey and the minute Ted falls in love with someone, they’re typically not long for the show. I do agree that she’s not the Mother (like 98% sure), but I do think she plays a role in meeting the Mother. We shall see.
Robin’s part in the episode was basically non existent, except now we know she’s an awful cook. Lily was also basically a non-part, but there’s only so much that can be done in 21 minutes. I do think we’re going to see more drama on the side of Marshall and The Eriksen’s. It might take a trip by Lily and the gang to go back out to Minnesota and get Marshall back into the real world. It will be tough for Marshall to leave his mom all alone (assuming that his brother also eventually heads back to his life as well).
I loved this episode. I love the drama, and I loved Barney crying- “Who’s your daddy?” “Who’s YOUR daddy?” I loved that. Because even though it was hilarious, when he mentioned that letter that he wrote to his dad…
🙁
As per usual, the flashback game was awesome. And even though I knew that Zoey was getting divorced (predictable) The flash to her in a new apartment was nice, and god, when Ted told her that it was Lily that hated her… That was hilarious. And even more than that, for once I actually LIKED Zoey. I’m interested to see how Zoey ends up bringing Ted to that best man speech spot alongside Marshall. Because I’m guessing that she’ll have something to do with it.
But I think I’m most excited for the Captain’s return… That should be epic.
i think it was the perfect combination of drama/comedy.
zoey is awesome. sadly, she won’t be the mother.
Barney was lying he told us that he was going to be on Katy Perry not crying about his dad^^^although nice change from bumping to crying:))
Zoey and the Captain end up getting remarried and since the Captain always seems to love Ted no matter what, he asks him to be Best Man?
Yeah, of course!
Zoey and the captain! I tried to make a good combination, but Ted and Zoey can not be the couple getting married on “Big Days” and it is to early for Robin and Barney.
but if Zoey marries the Captain, Ted being the best man is possible.
Thank you for your idea!
Watch the episode again and pay attention on what the charakters are wearing: Ted wears purple, Zoey wears white, Barney wears green, Honey wears red and Marshall wears checked shirts. Except for once (when she’s wearing pink, but she might wear a blue jeans as she does later) Lily always wears blue. And of course, Marshalls mother and brother, Ted’s neighbor and other small roles wear the same throughout the new episode. Thus everbody has his own wardrobe-thing – exept for Robin. A sign?
Zoey is not the mother. In Big Days it was pointed out that Ted meets the mother at a wedding where he is the best man. So that eliminates Zoey.
Also, I’ve decided that ‘dropping the ketchup’ will be the new euphemism for falling in love.
“Dude, how are things going with that girl?”
“I’m totally dropping the ketchup.”
Its gonna be a thing.
Guys, I won’t bore you all with details, but to summarize it:
ERN-IH-ERN-IH-ERN-IH-ERN-IH-ERN-IH-ERN-IH-ERN-IH-ERN-IH-ERN-IH-ERN-IH-ERN-IH-ERN-IH-ERN-IH-ERN-IH…
xD Classic.
Ah, loved the Who’s Your Daddy? part. Laughed my brains out. [get it?]
Anywaaay, not a bad ep. Not a great one either. Has good drama, but just, no quality humor. At least the story progressed.
Loved the ending, the way it all played out.
@osumarko: It’s Bays and Thomas. They will hump your brains out. That doesn’t mean squat.
@Rhenan: xD
Zooey is not the mother and I know this because of 4 reasons
1) she is not cindys roommate
2) she is not in college
3) Ted did not meet her at “that” wedding where he is the best man
4) I think if ted was married to Zooey he would remember her cousins name since I am sure they see her..soo the ohhh honey just does not work if he is married to Zooey
While the crying (or were his eyes just overflowing with awesome .. we’ll never know) Barney certainly isn’t normal Barney, he corrected Honey when she said he had only won 3 Nobel Prizes which is classic Barnstormer. Barney’s summarization of the night with Honey was amazing (the squeaking bed noises). When does he realize that he gave his dad his phone number but now uses disposable phones?
Marshal was great. His politeness is hilarious. “MOM get off the phone .. oh and we need some ice cream. thanks.”
Lily was pretty underrated. Nympho-Lily made an appearance with the sexting. However, I was shocked she didn’t tell Zoey about Ted. Since when can Lily hold onto a secret?
Robin nothing too great, but she’s Canadian so it’s weird seeing her make fun of politeness.
I think that when they introduce the mother they will let us know then and there.
I mean the mother lives with Cindy and I don’t think that Zoey just recently got married to the Captain, moved out of that apartment and into this huge apartment. She would have also mentioned the business class (from Definitions) to Ted cause as we recall the mother WAS THERE!
After all it’s called How I MET Your Mother. And the kids would definitely know if Zoey was their mother, I mean the mention of their mom’s name would surely ring a bell right then and there, don’t you agree?
I just think it’s ridiculous when some fans go ranting on about how they still think Stella is the mother or even Victoria!!! WE HAVEN’T REALLY MET HER YET, we only saw her ankle. I for one am fine with waiting to “meet” her since it’s safe to say that revealing who she is will be done in the series finale (which would be years from now if it was up to me).
I think everyone should just enjoy the show for what it is now and stop obsessing who the mother is. It’ll happen when it happens!!
I thought I read somewhere that Ted meets the mother at the wedding we saw in “Big Days” So I definitely don’t think she is the mother. I just love it when Ted gets a gf, because as he said in the Pilot episode, he is better at being in a relationship than being single. Idk, maybe I’m just relating myself to Ted too much now. hahaha Either way, I’m just glad they A-explained why we didn’t see Zoey for a couple of weeks and B-Made Ted and Zoey a couple, This means, (to me anyway) that we’ll advance the story line significantly in the near future. As well as, see Ted happy. At least I’m assuming he’ll be happy. haha 😛
NICE! I’m gonna use that too. Totally gonna be a thing.
I totaly agree with you!
You got a good point there. I am very keen on seing the story of how Ted met the mother continue, that’s what this show is all about. Even if I am very interested in Barney/Robin, Barney’s dad, Robin’s job and Marshall/Lilly’s kids =)
But I hate Zoey. If she’s the mother (which I do not believe), I will stop watching.
A few things that went on through my mind while watching this episode. First, doesn’t Barney already know who his dad is? From that episode where the gang was at that museum. Second, do you think they had Katy Perry fill in the role for Honey because she really comes off as an airhead or is it because of a totally unrelated matter? And thirdly, Ted and Zoey, but it seems like everyone else has covered that bit for questioning and skepticism.
One more thing that bugged me:
Robin burned that dinner that time and as an excuse she said that she had thought the oven was Celsius. That doesn’t make any sense though since a degree in Celsius is far hotter than Fahrenheit (40C is about 100F) which in return makes Fahrenheit cooler than Celsius and therefore impossible for her to burn the meal! Heating it up at 200 degrees thinking it was C but it was actually F would have never been enough to cook that what I remember being a bird not to mention completely burn it!
Lawyered!
it’s a reference to Clue.
On Marshall’s board Ted is Prof. Plum, Zoey Mrs White, Honey Miss Scarlet and Barney is Mr. Green. all the 4 characters are wearing the colour throughout the episode.
Thought the same thing at the time…good catch!
Here’s my theory on Barney’s dad: Towards the beginning of the episode, Barney talked about how he’s using disposable phones… then towards the end he said he wrote his dad a letter and asked his father to call him. However, maybe by then, Barney had replaced his phone number. So perhaps Barney’s dad has been trying to contact him but he can’t?
DUDE! Have you been watching?
The guy getting married is Ted’s friend Punchy. Punchy asks Ted to be the best man. Period.
I found this gaffe really funny too. How could she burn something if she thought it was in celsius instead of farenheit. And Robin is a news anchor – she should know better (since she has to see weather forecasters everyday)
I figured Ted and Zoey would end up together sometime this season. But among all Ted’s girl friends, I felt he had real chemistry only with Victoria – the one he met at someone’s wedding.
I think in one of the episodes the narrator says that Robin ends up marrying Don. So I dont see that Barney and Robin wedding.
Future Ted never said robin would marry don…
Ok i dont like the discussion of whose wedding Ted is giving the speech at… I am 90% sure that Ted says at the end of Big Days that it’s in Cindy’s wedding where he meets the mother, did anyone else notice that?
No, Ted does not say that he is going to be Cindy’s best man at her wedding! I’ve seen this episode like 4 or 5 times and I think I would have remembered or noticed that!!!
I didn’t even notice. That’s awesome though LOL
Uh yeah I don’t think it is Punchy’s wedding in Big Days though. I mean that is gonna happen pretty soon, they already started planning and the wedding from Big Days might even happen 2-3 or if we’re lucky even 4 years from now!
BTW, Anyone see the video they just put up on youtube about “How I Met Your Mother Video – 10 Million Fan Surprise”? So who u think the special lady gonna be?
dude, Ted is not close enough to be invited to be best man of Cindy.
First off you guys/ladies are right. It’s never said directly that it will be Cindy’s wedding.
Beu, for fun, let’s walk through it. I completely agree that he isn’t close enough to be her best man, but I can see how the timing and ambiguity of what happened in Big Days might lead people to consider Cindy.
The current running theories are:
-Punchy
-Robin
-Barney
-Robin & Barney
-someone we havene’t met yet …. I’ve heard odd one’s too like Ted’s mom and Clints (meaning a flashback) but there are too many details that didn’t match.
I’ll be honest…I’m most dissapointed that no one picked up on my brief Princess Bride reference. I’ll get over it though. =)
When did you reference Princess Bride? I feel dumb for not seeing it…
It was suddle so I can see how everyone missed it. I said “Let me explain, no there is too much…let me sum up”… It was an Inigo quote. I like suddle references.
love it.
Thanks for the Summary… I should have just written that.
I thought the same!
Actually I thought: “You stupid Barney are throwing your cell phones and changing your number while trying to contact your father?!?!”
I was disappointed that he didn’t realize… unless he has another phone number which is possible. But I’m upset anyway…
@Philipp, he never says that she will marry Don, but I would swear he referred to Don as “Your Uncle” on several occasions. I could be compeltely wrong on this and now have to go re-watch a season….
I think that in the episode “Rabbit or Duck” (that is the one where Don is introduced, if I am not wrong) future Ted says something like “and that was the day your aunt Robin met Don”.
When i first heard it i had too the impression that Don was “the one” for Robin because the way future Ted said it…i don’t know…it seemed like a person his children know, but i don’t remember any situation where he is spoken as “uncle”…
Don was introduced in The Playbook and first had a story line in Last Cigarette Ever.
Ah I see it now! I thought that was a reference to the episode, because of Barney’s Eee-errr thing. haha
Zoey is not the mother, otherwise Honey’s real name would be remembered, honestly who wouldnt know their wifes cousins name?
