More to see here after I remind you that I have dirt on all of you…remember that with the sandwiches?
How I Met Your Mother Music
- Stones by Barbarossa – closing piano song as Barney imagines what he should be saying through the window.
Barney. Sure there was a lot happening with Robin & Scooby (nice job @RobbieAmell) but tonight overall revolves around Barney. Since before he & Robin initially were a couple we have been seeing small changes to Mr. Stinson. Something to imply there is more to him than suits, sex & laser tag. Really makes you wonder how long it will drag out before we see the Barney that Barney is trying to hide. Some fans never want to see that guy, but we can tell that the story is drifting that way. I also love how Barney can confide & trusts Lily so much. I mean she is one he wants there if he get’s bad medical news. IT’s even cooler how she can see through his crap…and while I hate the line, “Where’s the poop” fits really well.
A lot of this feel like HIMYM writers are leaving a lot of room for who’s wedding it could be we saw in Big Days. I mean I really feel like I’ve heard marriage mentioned more in this Season than the other 5 combined. And why when someone brings out the love or marriage card early is it not considered “a Mosby”? I digress. All I’m getting at with the wedding things, is that we keep getting more and more “possibilities” for who Ted could be best man for.
Very interesting tonight was the way Barney’s heart monitory tracked so much of his activity. The skipped beat with Nora, the panicked hart rate with marriage talk, the cardiac arrest when Lily punched him. That’s just damn fine writing in my book. And the end of the episode, wow. That really had me fooled for a moment. I was excited that Barney let his feeling out instead of fighting it and then BAM! there he is at the door and I feel like a fool for believing it would happen. Bravo for making me believe it then pulling my chair out from under me so I fall flat on my ass, sitting there question what just happened. Luckily the Re-Return moment came along with Marshall’s calzone and I was back to a chuckle.
Let’s talk about Robin for a moment before I close out. Scooby, while funny, is definitely not Scherbatsky material and it’s clear she is just trying to break her dry spell…or could it be that she is having trouble handling Barney’s change in feelings? Maybe I’m blind because I like them together…I’m at least openly admitting it right?
Well, onto my moment and such. I did enjoy HIMYM tonight, hope you did too. While it’s out of the ordinary for HIMYM to get these frequent emotional moments, I’m enjoying the ride.
So what did/do you think of A Change of Heart?
Legendary Lines
Barney: I’m not with Nora. Wrong Preposition…
Lily: Wow, she really nursed you back to health
Barney: No I didn’t even see her boobs.
Nora: I’ve been trying not to stare at your chest all night!
Barney: What’s that like?
Barney: I only have one rule…
Doctor (to Barney): With a healthy diet you can live a long and healthy life, if nobody stabs you.
Lily: The day’s not over…
Moments of Awesomeness
- I said Bang, bang, bangity bang…love this song from Season 5’s ‘Of Course’ remember when JLo visits HIMYM?
- I love how Barney has dirt on everyone. Really reminds me of Game Night from Season 1 & the Re-Return story with Victoria… plus “Okay, Ted.. the Thermos.”
- Loved Mustache getting the second heart checkup….I really thought it was his doppelganger for a moment.
- Nora taking care of Barney… again with the callbacks, like when Robin took care of Barney when he was sick in Season 2, it was like a passing of the torch…even though I still hope Robin & Barney eventually end up as a together.
- Sandwiches. IT boggles my mind the things Ted censors and what he doesn’t. Still it’s pretty funny that sandwiches make you hungry. =)
The Re-Return
Back to 2006, Marshall drops his calzone, picks it up and then we see Barney. Nice.
Lingering Questions
- Is this the end for Barney & Nora or are we waiting for the beginning?
- We can obviously see Barney is changing, but will the outcome of the Barney & Nora Story be simple or is it simply getting Barney ready for someone past Nora?
Barney’s adorable! I likd whn he was sick & Nora took care of him. I kinda like how Barney sortta broke things off with Nora, I like him single but I know it’s not the last time we’ll hear about her. I loved when Barney got slapped, looked at the nurse & got slapped by her too! I also think “Scooby” was hilarious, but I kinda wonder what happened to him after he got hit….hm.
I wish that Barney went in. I guess it’s one step at a time though. :/
Loving this, btw. Stayed up stupidly late to *ahem* download *ahem* the episode straight away, what with living in the UK.
Looking on the forums and such, most people seem to love this episode but I couldn’t help feeling it was (shock-horror) overly sentimental. I know that’s a ridiculous claim to make just now about this sitcom as a whole, but for Barney this is happening too quickly with a girl we barely know.
Unlike you I’m not necessarily a RoBarn shipper, but I would feel cheated for a character we’ve grown to love over such a long time would instantly fall for a newbie we know nothing about. If Barney was going to make that commitment (which I think he should at some point near the very end of the show’s run) I’d prefer for it to be with someone we know. (Plus, I’ve bet my boyfriend 50p they’ll be back together by the end of the season, so I’m in it for financial gain!)
To counter a possible argument, I don’t mind the mother being someone who is just introduced (nay – I think it should be!) because we already “know” so much about her. I know I’d feel horrifically cheated if it happened, but I’d be happy never to even see the mother’s face in the end.
But the call-backs were good (even if the sandwiches felt a little forced) and I quite liked the sub-plot of Robin’s new dog, unlike most of the forums. Looks like I’m flip-side today!
Hmmmmm…..So Barney STILL hasn’t had sex with Nora yet? Interesting.
The writers are definetely setting us up for something big here, and I don’t think it will end happy for Barney.
On a lighter note, this episode was wonderful! From the many “I Have Only One Rule(s)”, to Nick Scooby, to the “dirt” references. (Thermos, Ted…what up???) A well-rounded and brilliant episode!
on the mother argument, at least tonight kills the Ted & Nora argument since they meet at the bar. =)
Just noticed this in the er-watch while trying to find out the songs, Marshall says “I know Paul Schaffer’s sandwich guy… love the subtle references
anybody know the name of the song at the end of this episode?
I’m thinking that was Neil Patrick Harris singing in the closing song.
Can someone tell me the name of the song playing at the end? I googled the few lyrics I was able to catch, which led me to this site. I really like what I heard of the song, and would love to download it. Neither of my iphone apps for recognizing music were able to tell me what the song is. I hope I find it.
Either way, searching for it led me to this sit, which so far seems pretty legen… wait for it.
That became one of my most favorite episodes! Seriously, my heart broke when we found out he didn’t walk in… I almost cried!
Also, if you could find that song, I would love you like no ones business!
Please keep looking!
CLUE: Was it me, or did the singer sound like NPH?
I loved it ! This episode is certainly one of my favourite ones and the final song , frankly said , was heartbreaking ! NPH is amazing and i cannot wait to see what will happen next . If someone finds the song please post it on this site for all fans of How I Met Your Mother !!!
I’m also dying to know for sure the artist & title of that last song! Anyone found it yet?
Yehaa… everybody seem to love the chapter and I couldn’t enjoy. This Nora thing is killing me xD (unless I have to addmit I felt a little bit sorry when Barney don’t go inside)
And as cecilymsmith said, she just appeared and already she is the one for Barney?!?!
I hope writers are just increasing options for the wedding, as mentioned in the post.
Moreover, I expected the other characters to move a little bit, but their stories didn’t move at all. I thought was going to be more about Marshall… A change of heart, leaving GNB, but not yet.
Well, now time to wait. I’m excited about next chapt! 🙂
found it! Check the links up top or on the HIMYM Music page. If this helped you out feel free to tell others about our music page… I know it’s a shameless endorsement but links and tweets always make me happy.
Absolutely loved this episode – the contrast between Scooby and Barney was well handled and the ending was near perfect (seemed overshadowed by Barney seeing Marshal but meh).
As for the song – I’ve tried using my internet powers and have come up with the following name: “Richard Walters”. Song name (and indeed artist) is unconfirmed however from listening to a few youtube videos the voice and style of songs he has sounds promising. As for the suggestion that it’s NPH – the voice sounds far to British to be him (as much as I want it to be him!).
I’ll keep digging!
OK got another name in case no one has seen it on the music page here: “Stones” by Barbarossa.
I don’t use iTunes so I’m searching for other links to confirm!
I assume from your comment that you got my email? Trust me dude…it’s it. Only on iTunes though. There is a different version on their myspace page, just synth..not piano.
I only post the songs when I can confirm it. =)
from Sea Like Blood-Barbarossa name of the song stones
Yup thanks for that man 😀
Got to love the power of the internet 😉
Thanks again!
dary!
Yeah, I am glad though – I like whats going on between Barney-Nora. Though I find it really hard to see a non single Barney in the future. Like he said about his Hefner future. Lol
If you’d like to hear it without iTunes, the YouTube link is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IK4oLCDB0o
Blooper alert!!! In the 2006 Barney holds an iPhone 4 as he watches Marshall eat the calzone. They either didn’t pay any attention there (which isn’t like them) or they decided for it to be 2006 in editing.
Good episode though!
So with you on this! I totally felt like the whole episode was forced. Barney becoming a new man…Nora…even the sandwiches. I am SO glad that he didn’t go in at the end though. I was about to get really mad if he had. I know that he is changing and maturing, but it seemed too fast. And I realized why I don’t like Nora from what you said, we know nothing about her. All of Ted’s girlfriends that stick around a while have a back story, and Nora just kind of appears.
I loved this episode. I know a lot of people are not happy with Barney changing, but I’m all for it, there’s only so long that the same jokes can be told with him before it gets boring.
Am I the only one thinking Robin didn’t really get a call from work when she left Scooby in the bar? It just seemed a little convenient after Barney was there confessing his love for Nora. Either that or my Robin/Barney love is clouding my judgement.
Hey, it is Barney… come on! With all the money he have earned working on … (please!) he can have iphones before they are for sale in the market!
I agree with Barney changing. When the characters created hold on to a one-dimensional aspect of a person (personality) interest is lost. It works for a while but after a period of time it’s like the friend that only tells you the same problems over and over every time you see them… you forget anything else this person has to offer because they are stuck in one part of their life and people move on. I do think it was too soon for Barney to go all committed on the new girl Nora (who I really like btw). He has baggage and issues that he needs to work out before he is a person who can really BE happy without all the shiny gadgets, fancy suits, and meaningless sex. He is morphing into a real person and not a sad Charlie Sheen type of person. I don’t think this is the last we’ll see of Nora. She might be the one for him. But I think his issues need working out before he can handle a real woman who knows what she wants as opposed to all the women that appear on the show but are not given any time to develop a personality that is likable or relatable .
I loved the episode but I was one of the few that didn’t want Barney to enter because it will totally change the direction of the show. Barney is the most interesting part of the show and if he become predictable then the show will go downhill. Keep Barney single!!
Having Barney in a relationship will JUMP THE SHARK!!
Good episode, really good episode. I love this Barney, but I really hope that this Nora is just a fad (hope this is the right word, sorry for my english). Please tell me she’s only helping Barney to realise that he’s ready for commitment! And I hope, like you do Aaron, that he will commit with Robin!
I can’t find when the wedding we’re talking about take place, but there’s only 5 episodes till the end of this season and I don’t think Barney will get married till then. If (and I KNOW it will go this way!) if he ends up with Robin, they have a lot of things to sort out and it will take more than 5 episodes to decide to get married.
Any thoughts guys?
It seems people forgot. This show isn’t about Barney. It’s about Ted meeting the mother of his children. Sadly, we aren’t progressing much in that direction. I believe it’s because the show will have a season 7 [which will be it’s last], so they’re saving all the mind-blowing things for then. I mean, after all, there are like 30 episodes ’till the end.
And I’m glad Barney is getting feelings to settle down. Good episode, but, dunno. Didn’t really have the spirit of the earlier seasons. I’ve seen better.
Jazzer.
thanks! you’ve been tweeted & RTed. Great site, btw, and I’ll be watching your music page very closely now. Thanks so very much.
They’ve been doing that a lot in the last couple of series – teasing the end of the string out of the ball and just leaving it a few weeks before actually pulling on it.
I don’t mind quite so much – and I think it’s nice to see a bit of character development for Barney. But, like you, I am much more eager to see what’s going to happen to corporate Marshall. Ted’s had a reasonable stint with Zoey over the past few weeks. I’m happy to hear from somebody else.
On a slightly unfair note – I think Nora’s Britishness bothers me too. It’s always weird hearing British character in American sitcoms – even when they’re played by British actors. It almost feels as though they’ve been asked to really push the accent to its extreme.
Barney just doesn’t feel like the type to fall head-over-heels in love with somebody so quickly. It’s more likely that he’d realise he was in love with somebody he’d known outside the premise of a sexual-conquest who he’d just not looked at in that way before.
Very true! Quite relieved by that – I like Nora (despite what you might think) but this is a love story! Ted’s got to be the only one for her.
good point….
by the end of this season.. Robin’s probably frustrated of being single.. Barney’s gets even more serious about Nora, but ultimately gets dumped anyway.. THEN they get back together by the end of this season, decide to work things out throughout next season… and have *the* wedding where Ted meets YM…
\m/
this show is about **TED** and his search for the Mother…
this show is a great filler though.. waaay better than the fillers we had in the last season… and i have to admit, that scene with Barney almost/not/going in that door was pretty neat…
like Ted almost/not confronting Stella in “Happily Ever After”..
As far as I know the show will have 8 seasons (at least that is the number of seasons that each of the actors have signed in their contracts). And, we have to admit that although the show is about the Mother, that doesn’t mean that we cannot know the life of the others characters.
This season???….. I’m loving it. Almost as good as seasons 1-2, and second half of 3.
So, 3.5 excellent seasons, an 2.5 to forget (well to be honest not all episodes)
I think the same 😉
But I also want Robin and Barney to be together so I could be mistaken ^^
I really liked last night’s episode, which is unusual because to be honest I don’t usually like Barney-centric episodes. But this one was good, especially because Nora was in it (yeah, I like Nora, what about it haters? haha). I do think Barney is getting ready to commit, and that’s good, but I really hope it’s not Robin. That whole relationship seemed forced. Robin thought he was disgusting, slept with him once out of sadness and loneliness, then 8 months later falls for him because Barney decided he loved her. It reminds me a lot of the Joey/Rachel thing in Friends, which was just a dumb idea. Anyways, I digress.
The writers keep throwing us curveballs about THE wedding, and I’m actually enjoying it, they’re keeping us on our feet. I think we’re close to the wedding, real close. It may not be the season finale (probably isn’t) but I do think it will be soon. The season finale’s title is “Challenge Accepted” which, as you all know, is a Barney catch phrase. And considering the transformation that Barney is going through, I think there’s a good chance that the “challenge” referred to in the title is wedding related. I also think it’s likely that it could really be THE wedding. And sorry to the Robin/Barney fans out there, but I think it’s Barney/Nora (his heart literally skipped a beat!).
Now you’re all thinking “dude, come on, they’re not going to introduce us to the mother before they’re ready to end the show.” Well, why not? I’m sure the writers could introduce us and still keep us guessing. Maybe turn the last 2 seasons into a “Definitely, Maybe” type of story, where he meets a few girls at the wedding, and things happen with a few of them. It’d be a good way for them to get us involved in the character of the Mother, because really, how lame would it be to end the show with him meeting some girl and he just says “and kids, that girl was your mother.” Lame right? Now, get maybe an entire season’s worth of character development into the girl that becomes the mother, and it would actually mean something. Of course, you can’t just introduce the mother and make it obvious about who the mother is because, well, then it becomes like every other sitcom out there, no story, just jokes. I think I’m onto something here, honestly.
Good point about the mother!
I mean for the mother – not Nora. 🙂
Why do you want Robin and Barney to be together? That relationship was a timebomb waiting to explode and not in a good way. Other than the sex they had nothing in common. Their relationship lasted for only a few months. We have seen more of Barneys feelings for someone who he does actually feel some connection with then he ever had with Robin.
Fellow-Nora-fan-HIGH FIVE! 😀
Totally agree with you, Robin/Barney was bad for
*oops, somehow pressed enter before the message was complete
…bad for themselves and for the group (Lily even had to return from her retirement to break them up!)
According Barney, this Sitcom is about an awesome guy who failed trying to convince his best friend to avoid marriage…
Also completely agree. Never liked Barney and Robin together. It ruins both their characters, especially hers. Seems to be the direction the writers and many fans are going in though. Nice to see some English representation as well!
I agree that Robin/Barney relationship was good just for a few weeks. Now Barney and Nora makes a great love story, and a great wedding.
I’m surprised no one brought up the idea of it being Heather’s wedding yet.
I don’t think it is though, I met Erin Cahill at a concert in LA last summer and she told me there were no plans so far to bring back her character. And I’m pretty sure the writers knew whose wedding it’s gonna be when they wrote “Big Days” and would have contacted her to make sure she’s available for future storylines…
