Marshall has a heartfelt discussion about his & Lilly’s baby making woes with, well a bunch of people on the street. And this goes without saying but, Don’t tell Lily.
The Wrap-Up
So did you see it coming? I’ll be honest, this is one moment that fi I hadn’t read any spoilers I would be upset. I say that because I if I didn’t feel there was more to come this season then I might be disappointed. What I do love is that the ending of Big Days finally puts to best the notion of “is she the one.” And I like the explanation too, I feel we may get some more details but basically, Ted meets his future bride, the mother, at that wedding. The umbrella comes in to play because it raining…perhaps when they leave. Viola, the yellow umbrella Ted left at Cindy’s appt, which may or may not have been the mother’s in the first place.
The question I’ve heard floating so much is whose wedding was it. Well we know Ted is the best man and that Marshall is also a groomsmen (from the monkey suit and boutonniere). I would also assume that unless the bridesmaid dresses are really ugly that Lily is not one. I first thought that it might actually be Cindy’s since her roomy was there. I felt like the timing of “That wasn’t the day I met your mother, it was at the wedding” was a clue. However why would Marshall be in the wedding? To the same token, if it’s Barney or Robin (Barney & Robins?) then why wouldn’t Lily be in it? I’m just speculating. Who do you think?
A few other details… I really liked tonight overall. I’ve really missed HIMYM this summer. And Lily did look quite hot tonight, right? Marshall was right to not be able to concentrate. And sundress Robin was nice too. The fact Barney was so nice once she bathed and such gives me hope for a Barney/Robin future. Who knows.

Yeah so the ending got me too. (I believe my exact words were, “What the frick?”) Ted is the best man? (Or maybe Lily was talking to Marshall?) So whose wedding is it? Robin or Barney’s???

Ted definitely turned around when Lily asked for the best man. Marshall barely moved, except for his head. Maybe it’s Cindy’s wedding? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

I could think and over think it so much but I originally though it was Cindy’s… but why was Marshall in it?
Ted = Best Man for that wedding – clue: he was to give a toast later on that Marshall thought he’d be nervous about. And he was, right? The beer label. Who else’s wedding would he be Best Man for at this point other than Barney???? THEY’RE BEST FRIENDS AFTER ALL. xD Ahem. I mean, unless they’re gonna pull something on us (duh…not very unlikely) and we don’t have the info we need to figure out whose wedding that was but…..Barney and Robin in this episode… yyyyyeah. There was ..something. And Don is gone. I know it’s what they WANT us to think but…*flails* Anyone else have any ideas on whose wedding it could be where Ted is Best Man?? :S

Wouldn’t hell have to freeze over for Barney to be getting married? We are seeing more of the tender side of him in the recent seasons, but unless it is at the end of the run of the show it will definitely lose some mojo with Barney as a married man. That’s why the Robin/Barney thing was short lived. Barney is better as a single bro.
What about Ted’s sister? That is a long past reference, but maybe she comes back up in this season. I’m just trying to think of people who Ted would be a best man for. Why would he be Cindy’s?
I don’t think its Barney’s or Robin’s, because why is Lily in such a “casual” dress….if it was theirs, wouldn’t she be all bridesmaded up?
Ted’s Sister? Maybe….
I thought of that, too, it being Ted’s sister…but the Best Man is the Groom’s pick, so why would the Groom choose his Bride’s brother whom he might not even know? Depending on who she was marrying of course but….aaaaagh too many possibilites and no information! :S
I think it’s Barney and Robin’s wedding.
You see, Ted started to tell the story from the day he met Robin. And he said she would be important to the story.
He met Robin, they dated but it didn’t work out. Then she dated Barney, but it wasn’t the “right time” for them. Ted met Stella, got left at the altar and that led him to be a professor, wich is why he met Cindy. He returned the yellow umbrella he had taken. Now Cindy’s roommate (the mother) has the yellow umbrella. Sometime in the future Barney and Robin will be ready to get in a real serious relationship and they end up getting married. Barney’s best friend is Ted, so he would be the best man. Ted is nervous because: a) it’s his friends wedding b) He never thought he would make a toast at Robin’s wedding.
It’s not other people’s wedding because Ted is the best man and Marshall and Lily are also there. So it makes sense the wedding being Barney and Robin’s, specially considering what he was talking about “seasons” and all the scenes they shared in this episode.
Also, the mother doesn’t have to be AT the wedding. He said he met her that day. So, it started raining and he recognized the yellow umbrella and realized it was Cindy’s misterious roommate. Maybe that’s how they met.
That would justify a lot of the stories Ted tells the kids. And why Robin, Stella and Cindy are so important to the story.

-Lily’s dress could TOTALLY be a bridesmaid dress, dresses are getting more and more casual these days. I wish they would have put a boquet in her hands to tell us for sure.

Call me crazy…but what if VICTORIA is at the wedding. she makes CAKES. I don’t think she is the mother, but it could send Ted on some spiral.
I just don’t feel like Lily’s dress is “bridemaidy” enough in comparison to the other bridesmaid dresses we have seen on the show. Ex, Claudia’s wedding, Marshall & Lily’s, and even Ted “dibs” wedding from this episode.
However, seeing as I’m not a chick, I will happily admit to not being a wedding attire expert. =)

Did anyone else notice how excited lily was to watch Barney get after it on the table after declaring ‘dibs’ in Ted’s imaginary wedding toast?? … just another subtle ‘lily is a nympho’ moment
Surely it has to be Barney’s wedding because there is no-one else to whom Ted would be the best man who isn’t already married. Also if it weren’t Barney’s wedding surely he’d be outside drinking beer with Ted and Marshall.

YES! I definitely think it’s Barney’s MAYBE Robin AND Barney’s, but I think too many people are assuming that. Since Ted is the best man, it could be either’s.

Does anyone remember how Ted asked Cindy to set him up with one of her friends? She still hasn’t taken him up on that offer. Who knows when she will? She obviously stays in touch with Ted enough for him to find out that she adopts a child … maybe enough that she gets invited to Barney’s wedding and brings the mother along?

only one thing that is really on my mind. maybe i’m the only one thinking that, but, robin, ted and barney will so be on each others wedding!!! come on, seriously, all the way down they have to be on each others wedding.
If it is Barney and Robin’s wedding (or even Robin and Don’s) that would explain why Ted is nervous (and playing with his beer label). He’s always been in love with Robin and it would be hard for him to see her marry someone else, even if he knows he’s not meant to be with her.
My guess is for Barney and Robin (a couple of tender moments with them in the show). My first thought watching this was ‘omg! Is this Barney and Robin’s wedding???” Then again, they made a big deal about Don so I think it could still be him. The possibilities are endless 🙂

You forgetting that from the first season they show you the scene with the umbrella blowing and ted (as bob saget) saying that was the short version of how they met so its not at the wedding but after it that they meet i think it has to be barneys at least and if it isn’t barney and robins then she also will be married at some point before that wedding just based on that he was so nervous like why is he not even in a relationship when barney and robin who never wanted to get married now are but it has to be barneys wedding you dont just pick anybody to be your best man and only the groom picks the best man and to me it looked like ted lily and marshall were all in the wedding i would bet its barneys and robins
