I really wanted to work hard tonight to make my return after having Jenn guest post for the past 3 weeks be amazing. And up until the last few minutes of the show I was ready to do just that. Then the last few minutes of “Lobster Crawl” happened and I can’t really put my finger on what precisely it was…but I lost it. Other than the re-return moment, that may have been the most confusing and disappointing ending I’ve witnessed in HIMYM.
I do want to be clear… overall I liked the episode and there were some really funny moments. Brobibs, Barney’s tie Cornelius with one of the funniest lines ever and Laura Croft Robin. I mean seriously some top notch stuff. But the ending bother me. Maybe it’s because I felt like the we might be getting somewhere…and what we get is at best more character development for Barney…and Robin…Maybe one of you can describe it better.
I digress. I feel like it’s best I just leave you all with moments and lines tonight. If I feel differently after watching again I’ll add some more here… I’d love to know if I’m way off here or whether you all felt the same. Sound off in the comments and thanks for visiting!
Legendary Lines
Lily: Well…it’s come to this. We’re drinking with our baby in a bar
Marshall: Now that we have been parents for a while we realize that pretty much any moron can take care of a baby.
Barney (quoting his tie): Just this morning he told me “I’m getting too old for this shirt”
Lily: If you ever wanna see these boobs again, crawl you son of me!
Ted: Someone’s going to be a Browns Fan!
Marshall: NOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Lily: There is he, straddle me, start grinding…nothing is off limits.
Moments of Awesomeness
- The death of Cornelius the red tie complete with legal reference.
- Bro Bibs. Wearing bibs all the time. Nice. Invest now! brobibs.com
- Bro Bibs for women… Bitch Bibs!
- Let’s go for the trifecta on the brobibs gag… also notice: dudeaprons.com
- Poor Patrice and concerning the end…DAMNIT PATRICE!
- a v-neck really is a Robin Williams look.
- Robin as Laura Croft…Oh My.
New Jersey
- To my knowledge we STILL DO NOT know if this is the last season or not. Come on…. it makes it pretty difficult to see if we are moving too slow or too fast.
- Robin acting like a 15 year old
- The trench coat technique never fails.
- WFT just happened with that ending… Are we sure this is the same Robin and Barney we have known for the previous 7 seasons?
The Re-Return
Ted sits to talk with Marshall & Lily…they “forgive” him. years into the future Ted ask Marshall & Lily to keep his little girl. With the yellow umbrella hanging in the background Ted leaves …and Marshall & Lily prepare to take their revenge of FIRSTS!
Lingering Questions
- What in the world was up with the ending?
- Did this episode really take us anywhere?
- What did you all think? Sound off in the comments!
For me this episode was totally garbage. I liked some of the moments in it, but in overall, it was disconnected from everything on the other season. Unfortunately, I feeling this in all the episodes of this seasson.
(sorry for the broken english)
I actually thought this was a really well-structured, decently funny episode. The characters all had something real to do and it pushed the plot a bit. The Barney + Patrice ending is only weird if Barney isn’t up to some super-elaborate scheme to drive Robin crazy and win her forever.
Decent episode. Liked tonight’s writer a lot.
…Damnit Patrice. Seriously, I really thought, wtf? Robin in that halfnaked stockings and PATRICE sitting there? Seriously, that wasn’t HIMYM as I remember seeing it back in 2005. …I’m sad. Now give me a broken heart-cookie.

PS: Kudos to the writer of this blog-analysis. 🙂 And yeah, some parts of the episode were great, some weren’t ( I’m done with Lily continuously having lesbian fantasies about Robin, just stop it). But that’s how this show works. What does bother me is the fact the last few episodes had no voice over by future Ted AT ALL. …What’s up with that?
i agree it’s totally a super-elaborate scheme (i.e. the playbook)
I really think there is a bigger scheme going on below the surface. Not only was Robin ludicrously OOC, but so was Barney. Sure the show wants us to think he’s matured and that he doesn’t want that sex-crazed single life any more, but the matured Barney would have questioned Robin, asking her why she’s behaving like this. Barney is the master of plays and the fact he constantly bait Robin into believing her play is working and then switching off, just tells me Barney is running a play of his own on Robin.
I suspect we’ll see a retrospective look at the year once Barney’s Playbook-style plot is revealed and all the ways he subtly manipulated Robin. Take a look at the second scene between Robin and Lily tonight for example.
Ted’s story has become non-existant. The show stopped being about Ted at the beginning of season 6. Now it’s just an elaborate money-making machine for CBS that must be fed. The mother story did nothing to feed it.
Another horribly average episode. The last few episodes feel like a crappy HIMYM spin-off in which Ted is just a supporting character… I mean seriously, where the hell has he been?! This show is supposed to be (and used to be) about Ted’s life, but now we barely see him. We haven’t seen anything about his building since the start of series 7, and now all of a sudden it’s finished?! And does he even teach Architecture anymore? Poor showing from the writers for me.
I too think Barney is totally playing Robin. I thought there were some really funny parts in this episode the ending left me with a lot of questions, and not in a good way. It left me with the feeling that I should stop watching until the season is over, then just watch all the episodes at once so I can see where the heck this is going.
I also agree that it’s weird that we haven’t seen anything about his building since the start of series 7, and now all of a sudden it’s finished, especially since in this episode they reference what a big deal it was in his life. And not having a voice over by future Ted at all is really starting to bother me too. That was always what made this show so unique and now it has just become non-existent.
I was sooo disappointed by this week’s episode!! The whole thing about Robin trying to get Barney’s attention was just pathetic! She is a strong and awesome woman!!! Also, Robin and Barney have such a love/sexual tension between them, but this week it was gone!!! Specially that final scene with Robin on the trench coat, there was no spark between them, and Robin made a fool of herself. I really hope that it’s just one of Barney’s schemes. Nevertheless, I really hated that scene. I also disliked the fact that they haven’t told us anything about Ted’s building and anything about Ted’s jobs for weeks now!!! And I miss future Ted’s insights as well.
anyone
know the background music in episode Lobster Crawls during Barney
conversation with Lily and Robin about what he searching for in his life
etc (setting:Mclaren Bar)
I’m sorry to see that happen. 🙁
No, I think.. barney wedding is the key how ted to meet his wife..so This season is focusing how barney marry robin (HBMR) :p .. and i think Barney just play another trick to get robin..
I’ve been told that all the music for this episode was show created…so nothing purchasable out there. Sorry Bro.
Not sure about the no voice overs lately…I’d love to find out though… And thanks for the comments. I love writing and talking with you all afterwards.
I only think it’s a play if Patrice is in on it… That’s not out of the question I suppose, I just don’t know that that is the case… time will tell I suppose.
