Although this episode did have a few laughs I feel it was a more of a serious episode to push the story along rather then to stretch out the season. We saw Ted take up a few different hobbies like woodshop and pottery to try and fill the void (if you will) of Robin being gone.
I do think that the writers want us to focus more on Quinn and Barney, because even though Barney realizes he got played he couldn’t escape Karma (both the stripper and fate). Just when he thinks they’re through he runs into her in a coffee shop and they start talking (sort of a real date instead of scamming Barney for his cash). On the other storyline after she gets kicked out of Ted’s place, Robin moves in with Marshall and Lilly in the suburbs and finds out that (although they seem happy in their new home) they regret leaving the city. I thought that would be a bit of foreshadowing but I never would have guessed the ending.
Ted once again shows how great of a friend he is when he clears out the apartment & gives it to Marshall and Lilly. What became of Robin’s old room? A new room for the future baby! This episode had quiet a surprise ending and while Ted is finally letting go and moving on with his life will he be finding the mother? This episode leaves me wondering what’s next for Barney and Quinn and Robin for that matter.

Moments of Awesomeness
- Ted’s odd hobbies to fill the empty room. The pottery wheel was an especially nice touch.
- Robin writing in her journal like living in the suburbs was an adventure.
- Barney realizing he is tasting his own medicine
- Ted moving on with his life
- Poor Patrice.
Lingering Questions
- What’s next for Ted now that he is moving on? His house?
- Barney and Quinn?
- What is going to happen with Robin? Moving in with Patrice?
- Karma for Barney?
I thought Karma was in Vegas and that she and Barney were cool.
That ending was perfect. Amongst the best endings the show has done.
Amazing ending! I loved how it kind of snuck up on you from nowhere. Each person/couple (Ted, Robin, Lily & Marshall) were personally freaking out over their new changes at first (but we didn’t have access to LAME’s thoughts). It seemed so formulaic with Lily and Marshall seeming like the boring suburban couple and then WHAM! 180! For once, Stephen Lloyd’s writing has kind of impressed me.
Excited to see Ted presumably move into his house finally.
Very decent episode but I thought the Barney story, while ultimately important, was tedious and silly. Barney seemed a little too stupid even for himself. Glad things might be moving forward for him and Quinn though.
Robin’s journaling about life in the suburbs reminded me of Marshal in Life Among The Gorrillas.
Life Among the Gorillas is still one of my favorite episodes for some reason.

Loved this episode, but where does Ted go now?? I think it would be funny if he went to crash with Barney for a little bit. I love Ted and I hope this turn of events can bring us back to old, mushy, romantic, hopeful Ted from the beginning of the series.
Also, while I like how much Barney likes Quinn, she’s not Robin. And I think that since Ted and Robin are finally over and had their “closure” that at some point Robin and Barney will either have to have that final conversation or they’ll have to face their feelings. Which is where I see Quinn losing. Because Robin is Barney’s bro. 🙂
What ever happened to Marshall & Lily’s apartment? It wasn’t that they rented that, they own it. So now they own that, the house on Long Island, and are now renting Ted’s place? Man, it must be nice to have money.
Did anyone else think that Robin was going to kiss Ted at the end?
But where’s Ted going?! And where’s Robin?! Gaaah, they know how to get me hooked for the next episode!
I actually quite enjoyed the Barney & Quinn stuff. I think it’ll show us some nice progression in his character on the way to getting back together with Robin (please!)
I knew Lily & Marshall wouldn’t be happy in the suburbs! It’s just not them. How awesome is Ted, giving them his apartment?! I really enjoyed ‘ghost-Robin’ and her comments to Ted, made me smile. I was sad how awkward it was at the end (although realistic) – really want them to just be awesome friends. Robin’s journaling was also brilliant, really liked the way it was written. To be honest, Robin was the main funny part of this episode, I agree with you that it was really quite serious over all. But I enjoyed it. They keep pulling them out the bag this season…

I miss mushy Ted too. I have to assume Ted might move into his house…though if it’s not ready he could go crash with Barney.
I think they sold it to their neighbor directly upstairs who wanted to turn it into a duplex or something. They alluded to it but never really talked about the actual sale.
The episode was strong. And i must confess: Im really sad at the moment.
The appartment stands for himym. And the appartment without ted isn´t THE appartment. i hope the writers know what they are doing and give us a Ted near at his friends and not somewhere in the suburbs…

What happen to M&L old apartment, did they sell it or what, I don’t recall it being brought up.

I agree that the apartment is an icon of the show, but I think the writers prepared us for Ted moving out with him buying the house in Westchester.
Before Monday, I thought that Ted would move to his house in Westchester and that Barney would move into the apartment and make it his ultimate bachelor pad, but I like Marshall and Lilly moving back in much better.

In Season 7 Episode 11: The Rebound Girl, Marshall & Lily were waiting for a “sign from the universe”, the the guy who was “so rich” bought it so he could turn his apartment into a duplex.
Does anyone know the song playing from 8:24 to about 9:00. Where Quinn is dancing for Barney?? Anyone?!
Yes! i’ve been searching for this song too…i still can’t find the name of that epic music…:(…by the way this song is also playing on episode 1 “the best man” after barney/robin’s dance number.
