Sorry I’m late tonight. Had a work meeting that kept me a little longer than I had hoped. I hate meetings. I don’t have a lot to say here, I was going to say we got to witness the end of corporate Marshall, but the closing makes me think he could still have another Corporate job in the future. So I feel like all in all we got some good laughs but overall just sat there and spun our wheels all night.
Barney was brilliant. I loved every scene with him in it. And we got some really solid Robin & Barney interaction as well, which give me hope, although, if you notice the rereturn moment tonight you will notice that despite hiding their hands a lot, Barney & Robin are the only two NOT wearing wedding bands on their left hands in 10 years in the future? Intentional? Ted is so it makes you wonder.
Whether it was wise to go back to a holding pattern for the episode after Legendaddy, I’ll let you decide. But for me, I trust where Bays, Thomas and the writing staff are going, plus they’ve given us some great eps this season. I do however wish we could finish the Zoey relationship since we know it’s coming anyways. Again let me say that I love Jennifer Morrison but, I might have been fine if they would have even skipped over it and simply said “Kid’s, trust me, that ended badly.”
With that said, What did you think of the Exploding Meatball Sub?

Moments of Awesomeness
- Loved Tommy Boy…I’ll never watch it either way they described though. And the answer is it’s super awesome.
- Did anyone else notice that the “guy version” of Jenkins…who shouldn’t exist, showed in most of the office scenes?
- Scooby!
- Barney’s finally back in his old office. I liked this one better. And his office rage, including that Robin is standing at the door, is AWESOME. No wonder he has an awesomeness poster in there.
- Barney’s lab getup for the Exploding Meatball sub seemed reminded me a lot of Dr. Horrible. I wish he would have used the laugh there.
- Robin’s harrowing tale was pretty clearly going to be a lie…but it was awesome.
The Re-Return
10 years later, Barney racks up 30K in uninsured medical bills to pull off the Meatball sub payback on Marshall…then he begins to plot for Ted
…plus, take notice who is and isn’t wearing wedding bands.
Lingering Questions
- Was there any message in the with the wedding rings during the ReReturn or am I reading too much into it?
- Do you consider this the death of corporate Marshall or is more still coming?
- Without looking ahead (being spoilery), who do you think we will see the return of first, Barney’s dad or Nora?

I enjoyed it! It felt like we were back in Season 3. It didn’t feel like a lot happened, yet the story line progressed, and there were a lot of hilarious moments. Classic HIMYM.
My new favorite episode of the season! Barney was HA…wait for it…LARIOUS! HA-LARIOUS! I love how Barney was planning his revenge, kinda reminds me of Dr. Horrible! 😉 Barney Stinson is Legen…wait for it…DARY! I LOVE Barney! 😀

There’s one thing bugging me, and that is Spain’s money. They haven’t used Dineros for over ten years, as almost the rest of western Europe they’re using Euros, and someone like Ted would know that, right? Otherwise great episode.
Dinero is just the word for money in Spanish. You’re thinking of pesetas.

HIMYM completely missed an opportunity to pay homage to Dr. Horrible. I mean it was so simple…add his coat, goggles or the laugh…or all 3!
I see, but Barney still first said Lira, the currency in Turkey, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan, and former currency of Italy, and in that context it was still wrong to call it Dinero..
I think it actually is Jenkins but for some reason they decided to keep showing him as a guy. Makes it funnier, anytime they show him we know its really a woman.

I didn’t realise about the rings (why am I always missing details?? xD), but it’s true…
Also, Barney still living in the same flat… strange! But at least in the future he has 2 pillows. When he is with that girl he has just 1. I don’t give up with my hopes for Robin and Barney ^^
Corporate Marshall end… yes? He’ll look for a new job, let’s see where he will end.
No. I didn’t particularly enjoy it, most of the jokes weren’t very original and Barney’s storyline was not credible here. The only thing I liked was graduation goggles. And IMO Jennifer Morrison does a petty acting job.
Overall, I thought this was one of the weakest episodes of the season, which saddens me, because it had the potential to be great! The element was there…
We’ve known for awhile that the Corporate Marshall era was coming to a close, and Marshall would finally pursue his dreams of being an environmental lawyer, and the writers had the potential to make this a fantastic episode plot. Instead, they made me hate Marshall’s unrealistic thinking about being able to survive as a married couple in NYC with a mortgage and the possibility of starting a family, and I HATED Lily for being selfish when Marshall was only trying to pursue his dreams when the reason he got the job at GNB in the first place was to pay off his wife’s credit card debt!
As much as I like Jennifer Morrison, her and Josh Radnor have absolutely zero chemistry, and I have trouble buying them as a couple. Maybe the reason I haven’t enjoyed her as much as I would’ve liked to is because I still see Dr.Cameron from House…
By the way, the writer for this episode is responsible for some of the worst episodes in HIMYM history, including “Cleaning House”, “Zoo or False”, and “The Wedding Bride”. This man seriously needs to find work elsewhere, because his track record with HIMYM is 0-4 in my book.
Sorry for being so negative, it’s just that I have loved this season so much, that it saddens me when there’s a week where I feel like I’m stuck in season 5 again, where I was starting to believe the writers had thrown in the towels.

they seriously needed a lighthearted episode like this. too much heaviness for me with nora and jerry, i think it was cool for them to do a cute funny little episode.
anyway i pray that my hopes of robin and barney getting back together havent been crushed due to the wedding ring fiasco but who knows. Funny thing about male jenkins, i didnt notice that. they probably just assumed the viewers wouldnt catch it.

My next favorite line of the episode is when the girl with Barney, asks why he can’t remember her name “it rhymes with your name”.. Barney: and I said my name was…..”
Ted’s knowledge has more gaps than he likes to think. Look at his spanish… Doesn’t surprise me that he doesn’t know the first thing about Spain.
Robin had NO wedding ring in the last scène, ten years later!!!

“Dinero” is the Spanish word for money and is commonly used in English slang (e.g. something “takes a lot of dineros”). Barney got the expression (and currency) wrong by saying Lira. Ted corrected his expression. Also “Dinero” sounds like the actor from Raging Bull.
Furthermore, your knowledge is incorrect. Spain, until the adoption of the Euro, used the Pesata. The Dinro was actually the currency of Spain back in the 12th century.

noticed the last scene: only ted, marshall, lily, and robin are beside barney’s “deathbed”, and no sight of Nara or any other possible Barney’s love interest. There could only be two conclusions:
1.) Barney never gets married.
2.) Barney ends up with Robin.

I guess this is a good moment for a first post on this blog. I really agree with your point of view on the episode, I felt a bit disappointed during the course of it and especially at the end.
Nevertheless, I do not hate Marshall that much, because he always struggled with the corporate world and seemed as if he would be naive enough to try something as his unpaid internship.
But Lily, well. I didnt buy the whole Spain thing. I think this part of the plot was not really well written. And I agree with you that her selfishness was not really likeable 😉
Finally, what I really hated: The exploding meatball sub.
Sorry, I know its funny. I even smiled. And I loved Barney while carrying out his evil plans, I really did. But altogehter, in this brilliant season, I was not really willing to take a plot centred around this.

I find Zoey very very boring. She and Ted have 0 chemistry. I agree not the best episode.
First off I would like to say that this show has become some sort of sick addiction. It’s pretty bad, I watch this show more frequently then Marshall and Lily having sex to pro-create. I could go on about my strange addiction, but I digress.
Now on to some major key points I saw while re-watching this episode for the fourth time today.
Did anyone else notice that both NPH and Cobie Smulders did not have rings on their left ring fingers?
However, we did see that Josh Radnor had a ring on his. With this in mind, I don’t see how this ten year jump into the future is going to play out for the next two seasons. Considering that every season has been subsequently in chronological order since its beginning in 2005. We also know that Josh is married by 2021 considering the episode “Garbage Island S6E17” I have complete faith in our writes to continue this amazing story.
P.S. Also not trying to be a downer. If John lithgow’s daughter that is in collage is named Carly “Legendaddy S6E19″how is she the mother if people think her name is Tracy “Belly Full of Turky S1E09”?

The writers went way too far with the deathbed scene 10 years later. It’s probably the meanest thing Barney has ever done. I hope his four friends could all forgive him after he tricked them into thinking he was terminally ill.
