Through rereading some old posts and talking to different readers, I’ve remembered how fun it is talk through some of the questions created by How I Met Your Mother. With that said, What questions would you ask the show creators/ writers if you could? And the great news is some of them will get to be asked!
The whole question thing seems loaded, so let’s put some restraints on it. You can’t ask, who the mother is or if Robin & Barney will end up together. But past that I feel everything should be game. I know a lot of people would ask about the bump girl from No Tomorrow, but there is a lot more to ask.
So let’s have it, what would you ask the show creators/ writers about any season, any episode or anything with How I Met Your Mother? We will be selecting the 3 best/ most interesting questions to give to WGN to ask!
Discuss.
What was Marshall doing between graduating from Wesleyan and starting Law School?
Whatever happened to Ted’s house that we saw last season? Did they forget about it?? (I know they didn’t, it just seems like it!)
Don’t want to “spoiler alert”
But a fact about Zoey to make you stop worrying.
Episode 1 season 6, Ted is best man on a wedding (guessing it’s Punchy’s wedding). In that episode he says something like; But that was a special wedding, because that was the day that I met your mother (so….not Zoey, thank God)
If you’re not sure…check the ep. again….When I found out about this, it was like music in my ears.

Where did the pineapple come from in “The Pineapple Incident”? That still bothers me.
“Damn it, Trudy, what about the pineapple?”
is that a question? I’m not even sure this belongs here… =)
Wait a day though. You will like my post tomorrow
The pineapple!! I was thinking the same!
And the worst is that we probably won’t know… In the chapter Ted says that they never found where was it from.
Other questions…
(Maybe some of them are solved but can’t remember now)
Where ended the goat? And the rabbit of “Architect of Destruction”?
Will Barney get a lesbian finally?!?!
What about The belt? Ted got it?
And what is that weird thing Robin likes to do in bed?
I think I could make a question or two of each chapter… just wondering to know EVERYTHING!
Exactly!!!
Don’t think that we know anything about the goat, the rabbit (maybe Barney kept it? =D) or if Barney did pick up a Lesbian (which is to be expected though, because – let’s face it – he’s awesome [see what I did there? =D]). And for the weird thing Robin likes to do: in Season 4 Episode 18, “Old King Clancy” at the very end of the episode we find out she wanted a guy called “The Frozen Snowshoe” to give her an “Old King Clancy”, but I don’t think that’s it…
As to the Belt, Ted doesn’t ever say if he did or did not ride the tricycle (I can’t cite, but I am 100% sure!), but we do know he didn’t take the Belt.
Is Barney’s “Uncle Jerry”, or Jerome Widecker (no idea how it’s supposed to be written) actually Barney’s dad? I would like some more story to that!
That’s a great question! New York City rents are always high so why is Ted still renting? Did Ted foreclose on his new home already? Then again, maybe Ted is in the process of fixing up his new home before he moves in….
Who decided to cast Neil Patrick Harris as Barney and why? (definatly the best idea ever!!!!! & for that I thank you a million times over)
What’s the difference between peanut butter and jam?
You must be watching WGNA right now… I’d tell you the joke but even I’m embarrassed by it.
I always wondered that one too.
Off the top of my head,
*Did Barney keep Cottentail and will we see her again?
*What are Ted’s kids’ names?
*Is Ted really half Jewish or was he saying that to mock Zoey?
(I know he mentioned in Mermaid Theory about swimming at the JCC but I don’t know how much of an answer that is lol)
One I really always wonder about, and is probably better because its less of a yes/no question is…
*How far ahead is this thing planned?
How much of how Ted meets the mother is spelled out in the show’s bible and how much do you make up each week when you do an episode?
Carter and Bays have already responded to this as one of their biggest regrets in the series. They learned to never say “never” when it comes to doing future Ted’s narration because it paints them into a corner. I think they want to know themselves where it came from but, since they said that, we’ll never learn where the pineapple came from.
(At least as long as the story’s being told in a flashback. If we jump to present time, future Ted could learn where it came from from a different character. In fact, I think that’d be a great final episode reveal if they could find a way to make it work. Tough though.)
Thumbs up for this question.
agreed.this is one I definitely passed on, I’d love to hear the story.
Questions:
1. What happened with Season 5? I know C&C have acknowledged that it wasn’t their best season, but I’m wondering what they think went wrong with it. Was it simply trying to keep a holding pattern for too long? Trying to avoid advancing the mother story? A different class of jokes? (Season 6 has been truly excellent though.)
2. If a television show can have a legacy — something that will influence or be remembered by future television series — what is HIMYM’s legacy?
3. It’s been pointed out that Marshall’s father was absent during the flash-forward to a future thanksgiving when Marshall carves the turkey with a light-sabre; Was this an intentional foreshadowing of his recent death? To what extent are these major milestones planned out?
4. Is it true that the ending of the series (with the mother) was already filmed with the kids so that they still look the same age as they did at the start of the series? (I believe it was filmed toward the end of season 2). If so, doesn’t this limit the possibilities of who the mother could be? If so, how has this shaped your plans for the show? Has it been a hindrance? A blessing?
5. Besides not being painted into a corner à la “The Pineapple Incident”, what lessons on writing has HIMYM taught you?
6. Would you want to be friends with these characters?
love the questions Frank. I hope to get to use them sometime soon!
There has been a big controversy online about whether or not there was a substitute narrator on the Mermaid Theory. I am particularly invested, as I have some lingering slap bets about the matter! Can you tell us if Bob Saget was sick or if someone else did the voice-overs?
Oh, YEAH! I can’t believe I forgot about that!
They already answered this question in an interview that I saw a couple years ago. They talked about how they were picturing more of a fat, losery guy, but in the audition Neil went all-out and threw a chair against the wall, and they were like, “ok, that guy’s awesome.”
Ooh–I forgot about that, too! That would be interesting to explore
I can’t peanut butter my dick up your ass. True story.
What is a rotating vietamese shame wheel?
What is a rotating vietamese wheel of shame?
Here’s the answer to the Pineapple Incident:
Remember how Ted was drunk and woke up with a girl in his bed and a pineapple on his night stand? Remember Zoey’s husband The Captain? On one episode, Lily, Marshall, and Ted were leaving The Captain’s house and The Captain had a pineapple on his porch. He said fishermen do this and it’s a sign of hospitality. The Captain has a pineapple at his house and another at his guesthouse/summerhouse (that kind of thing). So when Ted was drunk, he must’ve stole a pineapple from someone’s porch (or The Captain’s porch to his other house) and took it home.
You know they made an extra video about that now, with the captain. Sure by now you’ve already seen it
I think that is it actually. Not sure if you looked it up but it’s pretty damn weird. Involves maple syrup, which kinda hints towards her canadian heritage haha
What did zoey do to Ted while they were in bed? Season 6 episode 20
Zoey bit Ted’s Dick.
