Hi. I’m Aaron. I love details. I say that because I found myself picking this one apart with clues and inconsistencies. Sorry, but I hope you enjoy. Secondly, I really need a diamond suit. With that said, it was the last How I Met Your Mother episode of 2010. I’ll give you all a moment to grieve in your own way…
And we’re back. Tonight was funny. It’s nice when an episode plays into the big picture and was strong enough to stand alone. Plus, many of you will be happy there was no Zoey tonight. I leave that statement alone btw. I do feel there were a lot of good details tonight that we could all over analyze but I’ll leave those for the discussion. Past that, not a lot to say. I’ll move onto my favorites and what I noticed and then it’s all up to you.
What do you think about False Positive?
HIMYM Music
- A Perfect Christmas by Vasco (beginning Christmas song.not sure where to find it)
- Xmas Time is Here Again by My Morning Jacket (Closing Song as Lily & Marshall talk, Barney gives, Robin takes a new job)
- I Still Believe in Christmas by Joanne Tatham
- Freakin’ Out by Death (Marshall & Lily freak out)
Moments of Awesomeness
- Love the best man call back to Season 2’s Something Borrowed. 0 for 1.
- Anyone else wonder why Regis isn’t hosting Million Dollar heads or tails anymore? I mean Trebek rocks and all but I’m curious why he left. (see Best Burger in New York for reference)
- Barney’s Favorite things. Oprah parody I know, but it was still funny. Plus I was wondering where L&M got matching “Barney’s Favorite Things” pull overs’.
- I didn’t even know there was a Platinum skymall, but that’s where Barney’s diamond suit ad was. Odd.
- Baby proofing the apartment. That was just funny.
- I love it that Robin was saying she was going to be an Aunt. We know the group is close and Old Ted calls everyone Aunt & Uncle. Still, nice.
Legendary Lines
Lily: Is there a wrong way to pee on a stick?
Ted: I know what you’re thinking, I wish I was a dude…
Robin: I do wish you were a dude.
Robin: That research jobs sounds hard. And I’m pretty. Really, really pretty
Ted: You better check yourself before you Trebek yourself.
Barney: Diamond-suited up! Hey Ted, can you spot me for the movie? I don’t like to carry that much cash.
Lily: There’s an alien growing inside my stomach that’s going to explode out of my vagina!!
Barney: Why do I still feel outside of awesome looking in?
Lingering Questions
- I’ve have to say, Ted did some very solid best man work tonight. Let’s think back to Big Days, now who thinks the wedding might be Robin’s and not Punchy’s?
- Did anyone else think that Sam Gibb’s church looked a lot like the Church in Big Days? I saw some difference too but the steeple and the columns look the same. Just a thought to chew on.
The Re-Return
Barney give and impassioned public service announcement. A great CBS cares spoof.
There’s no greater gift than the gift of booty. This holiday season, why not bang someone in need. ~Barney Stinson
Do you have the link to watch streaming live?
I wish I did, but nope. Sorry =( I’d try google.
what was the xmas song at the end of tonights episode???
nevermind!! its at the top of this page…found it
I was fixing to ask if I made it that hard to find! lol. The text links to Amazon and then iTunes icon links to … do I really need to say? The music is listed on the How I Met Your Mother Music page too.
And I try to tweet it right after the ep. Just to over resource everyone.
I liked how we didnt see a lot of Ted until the very end. It was a very different structure for them and I liked it!! Best moment was definitely the gangs imagined reqctions to Barney’s fav things (what were ted and robin doing?). If you have ever seen an Oprahs fav things show it’s even funnier (or if you saw last week’s Soup).
When we got to the end i thought Robins wedding, but what time frame are we talking here? Do you think we will get to the end of this season for the wedding? Or will it be next season? Another question there is how many more seasons can we expect? And where is it going to end? Ted proposing? Or just meeting the mom? I think when we debate whose wedding it is we have to think about that stuff.
Aaron, I agree with you. it’s nice to have a Zoey break. Although I have to admit, I’m still rewatching “The Mermaid Theory”, one of the funniest episodes this Season 6.
Favorite parts to False Positive episode:
Ted totally crushed the Floral Arrangements.
Nice Flashback to Marshall Freak out. still funny!
Robin looks smoking hot as a Currency Rotation Specialist (Coin Flip Bimbo)
Barney saying : “Everyyybody gets a Laaaap Daaance!”
Nice Jerky Boy reference ala “Liver Lips”
I wonder how Marshall’s parents reacted, probably couldn’t fit all that into tonight’s episode.
BTW, Anybody know the name of song during Lily and Marshall’s Freak out? It sounds punkish.
Does anyone know the name of the Christmas song at the beginning of the episode that accompanies Lily & Marshall’s positive result and ends abruptly when they find out it’s a false positive?
another clue?robin and barney might get married…here is why i think of it…when marshall n lily announced the pregnancy both of them think about them being single…so this might lead to the marriage…
They both talk about being single, but don’t forget, Barney says “At least I have that going for me!”
I was happy that there was some solid evidence that Robin for sure won’t marry Ted to crush those Ted/Robin shippers (heh) because she asked him to be her best man, then when I re-watched it i realised Robin said “If i’m not marrying you” to Ted (or something along those lines)..is she still thinking about the possibility of marrying Ted? :/
andddd this is rather minor but i only knew now that Sam gibbs’ a minister…is anyone curious how he handled the fact about James being gay and married as well (or did i miss an episode out)
Highlight of the awesomeness for me is The Dibiase. For those of you that don’t know that is a tribute to The MillionDollar Man Ted Dibiase WWE Hall of Famer. Hilarious and very well done.
Also, liked Barney’s immediate reaction to “I’m pregnant”
The ginger bread house was a nice reminder of the douchbagerie that Ted can throw out from time to time. As well as a GREAT reminder of nympho Lily “uuuh oooh don’t reach into the living room!!!”
Well,Robin asks Ted to be her Best Man so it’s definitely possible that it’s Robins wedding, no matter who she is marrying .
You know where I can find the clip that Blarney does the fake “help someone in need” speech at the end? Lol that was epic.
A couple of thoughts that went through my mind while watching this episode. First off, by Ted being the best man at Robins wedding, wouldn’t that contradict what he told his kids not to do, and that is to never invite an ex to a wedding? I don’t know, but it just seemed like a very big deal when he explained that fact to his kids in that episode when Stella walked out on Ted in the alter. Also, it would make a lot more sense if Ted happened to be the best man at Robins wedding rather than Punchy’s. I mean, why else would the series start when Ted first meets Robin?
I completely forgot Robin’s “Let’s hope Santa brings ya a girlfriend this year Teddy”
His reaction was great. And thanks for reminding me about the Diabiase. I knew it was familiar!
What is the song or music in S06E12 when barney announces about the “Barny’s Favorite Things” and also music when he is diamond suited up? This episode was really funny, I really like the new name for the church “The God’s Strip Club”. I know it sounds blasphemous but it was really funny while I was watching the episode.
Ani, as per your question about Sam Gibbs’ being a minister not being a problem for James being gay and married, he most likely is an Episcopalian minister. No problem there, as gay marriage is sanctioned in the church.
I just love how they portrayed Ted as putting everyone else back on track with their lives, just like Jimmy Stuart did in “It’s a Wonderful Life”, the movie Ted was waiting to see.
And that diamond suit….pimp up!
Writers Craig Gerard and Matt Zinman talk about the episode ‘False Positive.’
A 15-min video !!

I had to look again to observe that.
The editors edited it so that we don’t get the right angle, even then it may just be “The Church” ;)…just take a look, I posted a pic of the comparison too;

Thanks Ryd,
btw, I added the video to dropbox…much easier to download. link: Barney’s Public Service Announcement
That rocks man! Thanks for the link!
Great work with the screen caps. It was the first thing I thought when I saw the church. In Big Days the Church is the “First Congregational Church” and I was hoping that the name would be seen or mentioned in the scenes with Sam Gibbs. No luck on confirmation there.
Like we’ve both noticed, the columns and steeple are the same. The differences come in with things like the tree structure and the side courtyard that is there in Big Days. Maybe we haven’t seen enough to make it be the same later on. Then again , the writers could be playing with us. More thoughts?
Hmmm…too early to see/mention the name of the Church, I guess !!
Well, it is the fall season, it’s gonna look a bit different… at least that’s what the writers want, anyways I guess somethings will be changing ‘a little ways down the road’:D
As far as the courtyard…it could be remodeled/made as a result of Barney’s donation (which has a lot of zeros) !! 😉
The editors were so good that they didn’t even let us see the whole steeple in “Big Days”, they gave a huge close-up front shot whereas in “False Positive”, they gave kind of a profile shot !!
The msg in “Big Days” read: To Every Season There Is A Change…change may be anything…from the church…to the wedding being in the next season (Summer i.e)…idk 🙂
OR..or
this could be the writers playing with us for like the gazillionth time !!!
But, I do enjoy it every single time…lets me use my otherwise dormant brain 😉
No problem…love this site !!
You’re Welcome !
Didn’t know about dropbox till now…it’s true…you learn something new everyday !
That’s the reason I also think that it’s not Robin’s wedding…since…well, you explained.
Couldn’t it also be a case of something as easy as “let’s not spend more money by casing another church” or “let’s us the pictures we have on file instead of going to find more”? Sometimes I think things we think into are really just things that happen during the course of shooting a sitcom. However, it is always nice to wonder!
Oh and someone said earlier about why they started the show off with Ted and Robin’s meeting and how that makes a case of why it isn’t Robin’s wedding where he meets the mom. For me it is the opposite. It makes more sense for it to be Robin’s wedding where he meets the mom and that is why he felt it necessary to start with his meeting Robin to begin the story. I dunno, but even after all that I still don’t think it’s Robin’s wedding. Butthat’sjustme.
Love this speech about the Dibiase from Barney.
Check out what I am going to buy for myself.
The Dibiase, see those pin stripes?
Diamonds!
it is the uppest a person could ever suit.
@Ryd: You’re either rich with a lotta spare time on your hands, or the HIMYM version of The Comic Book Guy…
either way, great job!
One little thing:
There are 2 other messages flashing on Barney’s cell, when he gets Lily’s update…
One was about some sort of “NOTICE”, and other had a word ending in “GIVING” (Slapsgiving, maybe ?!)
could someone get a high def screenshot of that? The scene appears at 12 minutes (and 4 seconds i believe) into the episode….
The first is from 11113000 and says “Page msg: NOTICE OF CLASS..” (I think), the second one from +1 (310) 850- and says “Happy Thanksgiving. So happy you’re…”
Screen capture
He also goes against that “never invite an ex to your wedding” because he ends up inviting Robin to his wedding. (I think it’s in the pilot, it shows her sitting there when he marries the veiled mother.)
The bottom one says “Happy Thanksgiving. So happy you’re…” and the top one says something blurry and then “NOTICE OF CLASS…” The something blurry looks like it might say “From Meg”. Maybe a reference to Crazy Meg?
And also, Barney needs to charge his phone. 🙂
great work… \m/
I had to share this clip of Ted Freaking out from this episode. actually scary to see Ted like this… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-e-EY_VPmIw
I don’t think that the wedding where Ted meets the mother is Punchys wedding. How would the mother be related to Punchy, when he doesn’t even live in New York?Marshall says in Glitter that Punchy lives in Cleveland and they meet only once in a year. So why would it be Punchys wedding?
“Anyone else wonder why Regis isn’t hosting Million Dollar heads or tails anymore? I mean Trebek rocks and all but I’m curious why he left. (see Best Burger in New York for reference)”
Perhaps because in Best Burger in New York he gets up and runs out in the middle of a flip to get a burger?
‘Mother’ might just be a guest at punchy’s wedding, also it could be in ny as punchy loves time square :3
did anyone knows that classic song when they thinks what to do about their lives?
It says “Free Msg: NOTICE OF CLASS…” and is one a lot of AT&T subscribers receive.
The Thanksgiving message is from a Los Angeles area code. Hmm.
thank you soo much! I wouldn’t have found that song… 😉
