Season 4 Episode 10: The Fight

thefight_ted_barney_doug

My Thoughts:

This episode of How I Met Your Mother had some great moments but overall it just didn’t make me laugh I recant…this episode is hilarious when you watch it again later.. Barney being a little way into guys that fight was excellent.  Marshall had the best lines overall and made the episode descent. Along with that I do hope light sabers will be available for use in 3-5 years. The goat, murder train for Marshall’s fight scene… Great ep.

Despite the ongoing hints at a Barney/Robin story line (they like screwing with our minds don’t they?), the single contained episodes get me a little. I like them and all but I need some carry over here and there, some continuity…something that says wait till next week…but I’m sure like all other shows they will do that during the Season Finale so as to make everyone really mad (Anyone else hate that? and it’s not just HIMYM…must be something in “writing a T.V. Show 101)

Season 4 Episode 9: The Naked Man

himym_nakedman_bar

Just a heads up… I have been doing the “What really happened” first, but decided to move it to the end for those of you who might not like to know up front that the butler killed him in the Library with the Egg beater… With that out of the way, let’s begin.

My Thoughts:

Very funny episode. I honestly was afraid it might be a little too edgy but they kept it clean enough.  It’s always nice to see more of the old romantic and not quite sure of himself Ted coming back through. Like in the elevator with Vicky when Ted divulges a bit too much of his emotional state then says “Let’s pretend I said this instead.” The greatest laugh in the entire episode comes when Ted says he has walked in on some very strange things in the apartment, followed by the scenes. If I had to rate the show, I would give it 4.5 out of 5 pineapples. Also, anything that knocks being overly involved in fantasy football is awesome.

Season 4 Episode 8: Woooo!

himym_wooo_girls

Seeing as my good friend Ben at howimetyourblog.com has decided to stop updating the site (we will miss you dude) and J.D. at have-you-met-ted.com keeps delaying his reviews because of his busy social life (congrats on all the cool stuff you’ve been doing by the way J.D.), I decided to start writing some How I Met Your Mother recaps. Be easy on me… I’m no where as good as those guys. On to the show.

What Really Happened:

Robin is wanting some girl time with Lily because things aren’t going so well for her right now (much like Ted). Problem is, Robin can’t seem to get any time without Marshall. Ted who is similarly down in the dumps get’s a chance to design the new Goliath National Bank building thanks to Barney, but he is up against the Swedish design firm “Sven.”

Not a Father’s Day Website

barney_pregnancy_test

The writers of How I Met Your Mother have done it with notafathersday.com. Barney(Neil Patrick Harris) was excellent in the episode “Not a Father’s Day” (it reminded me a lot of Scrubs, when Jordon told Dr. Cox that she was not pregnant and he went running through the streets screaming with excitement). The Who’s Not Your Daddy shirt’s and other merchandise was priceless. And the cheerleader effect was well thought out and so very true… I’m still pretty confused about the actually date we need to celebrate, is it November 10th?

Still… it’s an excellent use of off t.v. show marketing, you gotta love when shows do that. Check out the site, notafathersday.com; buy a who’s NOT Your Daddy shirt; or just re-watch the show..quite legendary. To encourage you to visit the site here is my favorite not a father’s day postcard from there:

Who’s Not Your Daddy

Who loves t-shirts? They happen to be a favorite hobby of mine.

Another thing I love are t-shirts I see on TV. Call it an affliction or some sort of weird people I will never meet form of peer pressure…hell, call it weak sales pitch resistance. One of my favorite shirts (that I can’t find an exact replica of) come from Scrubs. It’s the “I’m what Willis was talkin’ about” that J.D. (Zach Braff)… I did find one at T-Shirt Hell (*warning: site might have objectionable content), and while it is awesome it is not quite the same.

Either way, in tonight’s episode of How I Met Your Mother titled, Not a Father’s Day, Lily and Marshall are considering having a baby, but Lily wants advice from Ted and Robin, first. However, she soon finds they have very different views. I haven’t seen the episode yet but I have seen the preview and it show Barney with some pretty clever “Who’s NOT your daddy” tshirts! While not the same (but pretty stinking close) you can get your own Who’s NOT your daddy shirt on Cafe Press there are several variations so check out the choices. Just another way of helping you Be Awesome Instead (of whatever you’re doing currently… sorry I always hate ending a sentence with just “Instead” so I thought I would mention the implied part)

Barney Stinson's Office Posters

Ok How I Met Your Mother fans, it would seem there has always been a lot of speculation about the “butt load of motivational posters” in Barney Stinson’s Office. I actually get a question or comment related to this once a week or so… given the popularity of this topic I did some research, and feel it’s time now (before season 4 changes the wall again) the drop some knowledge. This post is only accurate through the end of Season 3, so feel free to comment and I’m sure there will be a revised post in the future.

Old Spice Commercial Featuring Neil Patrick Harris

One of the downsides to watching shows almost exclusively on the internet is that you miss some really funny stuff. For example, I had no idea that How I Met Your Mother’s Neil Patrick Harris was in this incredibly funny Old Spice commercial spoofing an older Doogie Howser.

My favorite line: “I used to be a doctor for pretend”.

Enjoy.

Motivational Posters – Conformity Penguins

”Be

Greetings fellow How I Met Your Mother fans and those who love awesome motivational posters. It’s no secret that most of my visitors come here for information on Barney Stinson’s Awesomeness Poster. Many of you have also requested some of the other Motivational Posters from Barney’s office. I have also been working on several of the other posters (more coming soon, I promise!), however until then let’s talk about the Conformity Motivational Poster. In “Life Among the Gorillas” not only do we see the poster but we without a doubt know what it says because Marshall reads it out loud. It reads “Conformity, It’s the one who is different that gets left out in the cold.”

The original poster shows a group of penguins. However, I originally felt that a more accurate poster would only have 1 penguin (because it’s alone…try and keep up), well that and I couldn’t find the original stock. So for your enjoyment, I have made up a desktop version of the poster that can be downloaded from here. It is 1680 x 1260 and in jpg format. The photo in the poster is from Eli Duke (flickr page and homepage). Thanks Eli, hope it meets your approval! Download here.

In more recent days, the stock photo has actually been found by 3 different beawesomeinstead.com readers. Thanks all of you! Sorry, I dropped the ball but it’s cool I can count on you.  Now the original conformity poster is available in a HQ poster size in the Be Awesome Instead store. I’ve discontinued the fan version but I’m leaving it down there as a keepsake…(feel free to say awww….)

the Awesomeness poster – all you’ll ever want to know.

…and then some. So it appears a lot of people are very taken by not only Barney’s Awesomeness motivational poster (probably my most popular post to date was just about what the poster said …which in case you missed it is: “When I get sad, I stop being sad and be awesome instead. True story.” ) from How I Met Your Mother (great season so far, btw.), but also by his whole collection of motivational posters. But for now, as promised here is all you will ever want to know about the awesomeness poster.

The awesomeness poster from Barney’s office did come with the Season 2 DVD if you buy it at Target. I haven’t been able to find one there in quite some time, but that’s the only official release I know of. I should also offer thanks to howimetyourblog.com for the proof, story and photo.

I’m glad we can get a hold of the real thing right? Well for me it’s not that simple. This poster looks decent size but I love big poster…maybe it’s just me though. To the point, I have read and searched quite extensively on the subject, and from what I can tell this is pretty much an exclusive deal with Target. It would be nice if they had several different of Barney’s motivational posters, but I figure they either have it planned for the future (for info on all the posters’ check out Barney Stinson Office Poster Collection) or they have no plans whatsoever do do anything more with them. Also, I am not totally sure about the actual size of the poster that comes with the DVD.

If you want about the closest thing you can find on the net try out the poster in the beawesomeinstead store and grab one there. I originally started with an  original fan version of the awesomeness poster. It’s quite large and awesome as a poster but to be nice, I also made up some desktop wallpapers. They are decent so feel free to partake: 1027.768, 1152.864, 1280.960, 1600.1200.

Barney pointing at the Awesomeness PosterAlso… I feel the need to start a conspiracy theory. So what we know for sure is that the Awesomeness poster is first mentioned in Season 1 Episode 17 (Life Among the Gorillas) of HIMYM. And when it is mentioned Barney motions to either the back left corner of his office behind his desk. We also know that the poster makes it first “on screen” appearance in Season 3 Episode 1 (Wait For It…) (..stop waiting that was the name of the episode, sheesh) and at this time it is behind Barney’s desk to the right of the center of the room. So he just moved his posters around right? Wrong.

If you take a look at not only episode 1.17 but also Season 1 Episode 21 (Milk) you will see so full shots which I will post below. Check them out and let me know what you notice .

The Backwall of Barney's OfficeLeft Office ViewCloser View of Posters and WallsNo posters on the Window. (duh)

Let me point out a few things. First, in the area Barney pointed, the awesomeness poster is not there. Behind his desk there is no poster with the F-16 jet we saw in season 3 or the correct number of letters for the word “Awesomeness.” It can’t be on the wall to the left of Barney because as you ca see there is just a huge set of windows. Was there even an awesomeness poster is Season 1…or just the mention of it. It seems to me that, as they do sometimes, fans made such a deal out of it that they threw it in in Season 3 as a great gag. Does this mean that all of Season 1 was a lie? Well… actually yes, it is a TV show remember? Sheesh, you all take this way to serious

Thanks for reading. Thoughts and comments are welcome!  …If you’re still here then that means you haven’t been to the store yet! So yet check out the Be Awesome Instead Store for the Awesomeness Posters and others!

*slight update – Since I get a lot of questions on it I have researched and released the definitive work with as much detail as I could find on the complete Barney Stinson Office Poster Collection. True Story.
