The Time Travelers – Season 8 Episode 20

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER

Music

  • Dance Song (Derriere?)   (Marshall and Sparkles dance off)
  • For the Longest Time by Billy Joel amazon (future and Present Ted’s sing together)
  • Piano piece when Ted imagines meeting the Mother early is Swihart. I tell you this because I know you will ask. 😉

Sorry I’ve been away friends, too much life to discuss sometimes though. Still it’s nice to sit down, grab a beer and enjoy a laugh (and a cry) with Ted and friends. Since that moment I’ve rewatched this episod twice to really get a handle on what happened. The beging is a little out there with future Ted and Barney’s and seriously, how cool would that be to have your future self for advice? By the end of the episode you find out Ted was sitting there all alone and the whole thing had happened 5 years ago… which is a little confusing too. My guess is the dance off for drink title happened five years ago and this is NOT 5 years in the future which would really be screwing with the timeline which may be important since we are 45 Ted days away. Then you have Ted having an imaginary conversation with someone he doesn’t know existed. Overall a lot of symbology and then a laugh till they gut punch you moment.

I love the fact that the writers are slowly crossing theories and loose ends of the bucket list.  I was ecstatic when the theory about Barney’s sister being the mother got debunked (ref. The Carly Theory debunk  s08e14 “Ring Up”). I also know there are those of you that might have even considered coat check girl from Season 1 since he never saw her again … but it looks like he did (5 years ago) and never followed through.  I hope they keep it up, we might even se where that pineapple came from.

Finally, I’ve seen a lot of chatter about thinking the Mother is dead in the future …especially because of Ted’s gut misty eyed 45 day speech his imagines giving to the future Mrs. Mosby at the end. Is it possible? Sure and I can read into how some might read a lot into the details. I don’t buy it though. You should also keep in mind that this is coming from someone who still is pretty fond of the Tracy Theory. Things like that seem to make sense to me…and keep in mind what the writers have done so far this season (mentioned above)… with that said, the dead mother theory still seems like a stretch at this point. I’ve been wrong before though so what are your thoughts?

Legendary Lines

Barney: It’s gonna be Legen… wait 20 years for it…
20 year later Barney: Dairy.

Ted: Do I hurl?

Ted: No one is saying you need alcohol to have an exciting and memorable night… but in this case.

Marshall: Lily, I know I have the sexual karasima of a bad boy but I don’t have the manners of one.

Future Coat Check Girl: You’ve been dating for a long time Ted…has it ever gone any other way?

Robin: I’m Sparkles bitch!

Imaginary Barney: Look around Ted, you’re all alone.

“If He Could” Ted: In exactly 45 days, I will meet you. But I’m here now, I guess because, I want this extra 45 days.. With you.

Moments of Awesomeness

  • Minnesota Title Wave…by Marshall. wait I mean the Robin Scherbatsky
  • I loved 20 year from now Ted screwing with present day Ted about not being married yet.
  • coat check girl! Damn I love call backs.
  • Sparkles vs Big Fudge. And I love that Robin is finally embracing the Sparkles history.
  • 45 Days.
  • Sad ending…but seriously good stuff.

Re-Return:

Future & Present sing “For the Longest Time” in 6 part harmony.

Lingering Questions

  • I honestly wish I had a 20 hours from now me to get advice from. You?
  • Since Carl own’s the bar wouldn’t his last name be MacLaren?
  • I know 45 days isn’t literal…but does it mean we will see some magic before the end of Season 8?
  • What did you guys think?

Season 4 Finale – s4e24 The Leap

HIMYM_the_leap_pool_pimped_in

The thing that annoys me most about most season finales is that someone most always has to die. Luckily, the makers of How I Met Your Mother, must share my feelings and thus we get our own set of clichés. And while we did end up at the hospital (again), a relationship blossomed (again), and a cliffhanger (duh) it was so funny, I really couldn’t care less. The only thing I didn’t like is they HIMYM doesn’t get an hour long season finale.

The callbacks in this episode were priceless. And All the plotlines were done well and made me laugh the whole way through. Also, I LOVED the goat. It appears that putting a barnyard animal in a sitcom is instant comedy genius.  I’m honestly not sure which has more hype and build up…the goat, what really happened with that pineapple or who the mother is? Well at least one question has been answered now, though I wonder how they “get rid” of the goat? Plus we did anyone else catch a glimpse of “the slutty pumpkin” as Marshal stood as Dracula to make the leap?

himym_the_leap_slutty_pumpkin The Robin and Robin story line was excellent, yet not too revealing. Barney’s conversation with Ted was such a good scene, and the hug (holding tears back).  The continual back and forth of Robin Mosbying Barney and Barney’s reaction was priceless. Their hospital scene was great, the trouble doesn’t seem so troubling. Throughout the entire season we have seen Barney make this gradual push towards this…and while I don’t think that he or Robin can change their ways immediately, I do think the journey will be strange but funny. I hope they keep the two together long term or something of the sort.  The scene before Barney makes the leap speaks volumes to their feelings. While we have seen many episodes where Barney glances at Robin, knowing there is something more, this may be one of the first time we have seen Robin look that way at Barney.  It was so significant too, Barney making that leap, Robin urging him on with their shared look. Robin belongs with Barney, but we will see how they play this out.

I do love all the talk about the mother, it’s fun to think about, discuss. But I enjoy the journey al lot more. Carter Bays said in an interview with Alan Spinwall that he won’t answer the “when will we meet the mother” question because his preference is a spoiler. And knowing that the mother is in Ted’s class, well that could make things move quick but if the final moment of the show are “and that’s how I met your mother” which I am more of a fan of then I hope they postpone it as long a s possible. I think they could keep the show going after she is introduced but I enjoy the journey and stories of these 5 friend so much I really hate to see it move too quickly. And since we know the Mother was in Ted’s Architecture class, I would think we can easily eliminate some mother candidates (ehem…Robin, Victoria…)

“You know what? Let’s sort this out later”…shall we? I’ll recap a bit more with the bullet points and Legendary Lines…

HIMYM s4e23 – As Fast As She Can

  himym_fast_as_she_can_two_thumbs

I thought last week’s HIMYM was a lot better and maybe I am still expecting too much because of the phenomenal Scrubs finale, but I thought this episode was funny but just, well…average. I mean Stella (Sarah Chalke) is a great actress but on HIMYM she is just isn’t as funny as the others. It’s not her fault, I think it just how she is written and supposed to come across, as that more serious part. To that end I really feel that she is meant to contract the future mother.  She is not into all the romance Ted offers, she isn’t the fun one for Ted, I mean she is great, but Ted would have to settle in ways to make it work with her. I like seeing her on screen, but I hope this episode closes the door on all the “look Stella’s the mom” people. (btw. if you want to join a mother discussion try this about the mother.) Either way, her talk with Ted was really good and her words of encouragement. Plus we get another glimpse of the yellow umbrella. I really thought some chick was gonna walk by and say, where did you get that?

Barney’s side story was fairly funny. Especially that eh got arrested, and swore on his suits…wow. I can’t decide which was funnier, seeing Barney in two thumbs up pose, crying at gunpoint pose, or scared and behind bars pose. I think everyone had speeding ticket stories, unless you can’t drive. Which brings to mind, when did Barney learn to drive? I thought in Arrivederci Fiero he never wanted to drive again. I’ll easily err on the side of it’s just not mentioned or I missed it before I gripe about continuity.

Tony was really funny. Really, nothing but love for Jason Jones. The murder house scene was great. I’ve also been trying to find his movie site (weddingbridemovie.com) …I know it’s one of those “more about that later” like the goat. But the HIMYM spoof websites are always funny. Maybe it will be up once it’s talked about. Still, chances that it is about Ted’s marriage and meeting the mother? Thoughts?

So I still laughed, but I was left wanting a little more. The ending was redeeming in a way, but definitely not in a funny way.

Good Episode. While I hate not seeing Lily, the reference to her help. I’m really glad they didn’t go down the “Robin’s pregnant” road like they were playing out on the promo video.  Anyways, onto what I thought.

While I wasn’t for sure who he was running into, I could have almost guessed. I know a lot of fans had hoped it would be Victoria but no cigar.  I still hope they bring back Victoria at some point, I never felt like they truly resolved that relationship well. The segways into why Ted went that way were played well. The call backs were so very funny. And while we say the mysterious yellow umbrella that makes it’s  appearance on the cover of the How I Met Your Mother Season 4 DVD, was a constant, I have a feeling that it’s not leading the direction we think.  Think about it, Stella’s appearance could have a few meaning but I think the main options are 1) she is the mother and it’s her umbrella 2) she says something to Ted that helps him along his way to finding the mother and it’s not her umbrella.  Well Stella is not the mom.  Despite Sarah Chalk having more time with the most likely end of Scrubs, I think enough evidence has been given to back me up, including words from Ted’s own mouth. So that leads me to believe that the Stella encounter will play a part in Ted meeting his future wife (yes, I know there are other theories but I’m writing here). And to add even more, I loved the homeless guy with the headphones coming out of an orange. =)

Also the re-return provided even more ammunition for a Robin/Barney relationship that should be dealt with in the Season finale. It also provides a great explanation for a final change like the one we have been seeing this season in Barney.  I also assume that his date with Petra didn’t go so well.

Lots of possibilities I suppose. What did everyone else think? About the possibilities or the episode?

This was a great episode.  I didn’t get to watch last night because there is currently 1 TV in the room my wife and I are staying in and Chuck was on. Thus my being a nice husband is cause for a late viewing , recap and review. On the bright side, Chuck was pretty awesome last night, so there is that.

Despite the severely sacrilegious nature of it, Barney’s attribution of the 3 day rule to Jesus was hilarious. BTW, CBS posted the whole thing to youtube.  Marshall’s discomfort with the whole thing made it even funnier. I felt almost as bad watching it as I do when I watch Dogma. Whether it was scripted or adlib, NPH does such a great job of delivering those speeches. Wow everytime.

Sarah Chalke on Relationships in Scrubs and How I Met Your Mother

Sarah-Chalke_bw With the Season 4 premier of How I Met Your Mother tonight the interweb is all a buzz with news from the cast and various other places. All in all, there is a lot to digest even before the show airs. One interview I thought was quite interesting and something you shouldn’t miss came from the Boston Herald.

Sarah Chalke had some interesting things to say about her on air relationships as Stella on  HIMYM and as Dr. Elliot Reed on Scrubs. First off on HIMYM, there has been a lot of speculation that she could be “the Mother”…you know my reason for disagreeing because of the name Tracy theory and the article on what we do know about the mother. Luckily for me (hooray), Sarah seemed to agree saying:

“I don’t think I am, I have no idea, but I think that show is going to go on and on, and I think there are many stories left to be told.”

On the Scrubs frontier, there is the always present Elliot and J.D. story…For seven years We’ve been watching J.D. “pine after Blonde Doctor, and I gotta tell you, everyone is sick of it — Will they? Won’t they? Looks like they’re going to! Oooh, the last second, something might– oooh oooh oooh! Come on! Enough already!” (the Janitor is so right!)
When Sarah was asked, if she is rooting for J.D. and Elliot to reunite? She says:

“I’m a romantic,” she said. “I think they should end up together.”

Well, I will have to stick with the Janitor on this one…even if I am in the minority. Though, she also says she would like to stick around on Scrubs even if Zach Braff leaves at the end of this season as reported, so I’m not sure how that would work out.

Thoughts on either relationship? Share them below…

Miracles – HIMYM Season 3 Finale

The beginning of the episode was predictable. For some reason, I knew Ted would be sitting there(Just a great use of Radiohead by the way, music matters). Either way… I don’t have much to say here, other than to say I stand by my previous posts (or for the lay person “Nah, Nah, I am right”)

On the Robin and Barney issue, I feel that I made a pretty compelling case, and after the way :Miracles” ended, I am more certain of it.

The mother. Despite what others are claiming and last moments of Season 3 that left me screaming “NOOOOOOOOOOO….this went on a while….OOOOO!!”, I still stand by my post about what we know about “the mother”. Despite how I love Sarah Chalke, I still feel confident that Stella is not the mother! (…pssst…the mom’s name is Tracy!)

It’s also always nice to see the awesomeness poster..even if it was only for a fleeting moment….

Well I suppose that is a small episode recap…coupled with bragging and link dropping. Until Later, Be Awesome Instead.

the Name Tracy Theory from How I Met Your Mother

UPDATE: To anyone who doubted me… suck it bitches! 😉

Original Article:

If you follow How I Met Your Mother, you may have heard a rumor that the writers have given us at least part of the name of Ted Mosby’s future bride. I even mentioned it in a recent post detailing what we can conclude so far about “the mother”. The video clip below is from Season 1’s Belly Full of Turkey. In this clip, a “burlesque entertainment artist” (otherwise known as a stripper) approaches Ted and says that she thought what he did was sweet… She says “I’m Amber”…then says “Actually, I’m Tracy”… then future Ted’s (Bob Saget) voice pops in and says “And that kids is the true story of how I met your mother.” He then says “Just kidding” however the kids are shocked. The fact they reacted like this lets you know there is some truth to the association of the name “Tracy” to their mother’s name. Otherwise the kids would not react that way because they would know the name makes no sense there. Watch for yourselves. Thoughts are welcome. (more…)

About the Mother from How I Met Your Mother.

***Thanks for all the comments, but I’m closing down commenting on this article. It’s at over 650 comments and that’s a ton to read, People are saying the same things over and over. In the spirit of keeping the conversation going, I’ve summed up the bulk of the post and what people are saying here and have started a new thread called More on Who is the mother from HIMYM.

Like most posts tat I really enjoy it’s overly in depth, check it out and let me know what you think!

—————————-

I feel that a big question for How I Met Your Mother fans has always been “Who is the mother?” And while we don’t have a definite answer, we can take what we do know so far and begin to formulate some ideas. This is a long one so go grab a drink and pull up a chair. By the way, HIMYM returns to us on March 17th! So hopefully soon there will be more to add to this list! Disclaimer: I love theories, but I have not posted anything here that cannot be backed up. Enjoy!
Who we know is NOT:Picture 4

1. Robin is not the Mother. We learn this in the first episode and and it is reconfirmed countless times in all 3 seasons. No matter how much people “want it to happen, ” it just won’t. Get used to disappointment. In fact, for those still
