Purple Giraffe–Season 1 Episode 2

 himym_purple_giraffe_bar

Well I hope you all are enjoying rewatching Season 1 of HIMYM this summer. I’ll try to keep these better paced. I’m still struggling with the new format of including video reviews, but I’ll try things out and hopefully it will come together. I usually spend some time commenting up front…just general thoughts but I feel like that part will be replaced by the video, but I’ll still be keeping Legendary Lines, HIMYM Music section, Moments of Awesomeness and Lingering questions.

I really want to encourage you all to comment or leave video replies on the How I Met Your Mother Site Youtube Channel, which you can find at: youtube.com/thehimymsite. I know I’m a big dork but I’m a fan like all of you and enjoy talking about the show, so I look forward to what you have to say.

With that said, what did you thing of Purple Giraffe (from the first time watching even till the 87th)?

So as many of you know, I didn’t start recapping HIMYM until Season 4 (ref. Woo Girls) and because of that I’ve always felt that beawesomeinstead.com is incomplete. The thing is, I like completion…so let’s start from the beginning shall we?

the Suit Up Motivational Poster

suit_up_horizontal

So we already know that people seem to love Barney Stinson’s motivational posters from How I Met Your Mother…but there is more to Barney than just that. Especially the catch phrases. Legen-dary, High Five, Say What, Please and True Story…but the one we associate best with Barney? Suit Up! ..well that or any of the many variations, like:

Snowsuit Up!
Birthday suiting Up!
Slut Up!
Spacesuit up!
You are suited in an unmistakably upward direction!

So other than a great suit what else do you need to show people that you are different from the millions of t-shirt and jeans lemmings out there. How about Suit Up poster.  I’ve also decided to start adding a new motivational poster to the Be Awesome Instead Store at least every month. And this month is inspired entirely by Barney. I also felt this poster was so legendary that I needed a vertical and a horizontal version. For now I only have the large sizes but I plan to add more soon.

Get yours  at the Be Awesome Instead Store and check back often for more updates and new poster’s and shirts.

International Suit Up Day – October 13, 2010

Thanks for visiting beawesomeinstead.com! While you are getting prepared to Suit Up take some time and browse the site! We talk HIMYM every week and would love to have you be apart of the community! Now SUIT UP!

also…there is a more recent notice of suit up day: http://www.beawesomeinstead.com/fans/2011/october-13th-suit-up-day/

I feel that new holidays inspired by How I Met Your Mother were inevitable. I mean I think everyone should celebrate Slapsgiving, but that’s pretty closely tied with the previously known holiday, Thanksgiving. I tell you this because many of you may have forgotten. And while it’s not nearly as possible and traceable as Festivus, I still love the premise of the holiday. So without any further ramblings, I give you “International Suit Up Day.”

International Suit Up Day (ISUD) is celebrated on October 13th of each year.  On this day, suit up in honor of How I Met Your Mother, and Barney Stinson, and because suits are awesome…

For more information and to confirm your participation, visit the ISUD facebook event page. I’ll remind you again when it get’s close but I would love to see some pics of how you chose to suit in an upward direction!

Got pics of you suiting up on October 13th? Post them on this post: http://www.beawesomeinstead.com/garb/2010/plan-to-suit-up/

The Perfect Week: Season 5 Episode 14

Mustach_Pete_Drexel   Despite not being a big fan of almost completely sex centric episodes, I thought The Perfect Week was quite funny. The addition of CBS Sports’ Jim Nantz as himself was genius. I even spit what I was drinking when he got up and was kicking his chair. The entire episode was drenched in tons of funny metaphors and some great call backs, including one to one of the greatest Baseball films ever, Major League. The rest of the stories intertwine quite nicely, Lily & Marshall’s (plus) shared toothbrush, Ted’s student, & Robin’s waiting on a call from someone she didn’t really like. They all play well at each other during a really bad week.

I’ll run down my regular music moments and quotes below but I’m pretty sick so I’ll just hope the discussion gets the rest. Just don’t jinx it.

What did everyone think of the episode?

Episode 100: Girls Vs Suits – Season 5 Episode 12

 himym_girlsvs_suits_cast

It nice to have some hype around an episode and the Legendary 100th episode of How I Met Your Mother definitely had a lot of hype. Girls versus…wait for it…suits was an extremely funny episode. I wasn’t one of the lucky one’s who got to watch it early and in a way it’s nice to be surprised along with everyone else. If you visit here I’m sure you know it, but don’t venture further unless you want some spoilers…

Slapsgiving 2: Revenge of the Slap – Season 5 Episode 9 Discussion

I was never really a fan of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but I would love to poll the audience after that one. I’ll get my full review up as soon as possible, but here are a few preliminary thoughts…

  • The slap on Thanksgiving again?
  • Barney didn’t have many good moments this week, only cowering in fear…poor dude. I wouldn’t hang around for that.
  • It’s nice to meet part of Lily’s family, and for Marshall and Lily to get some focus in the story

With this in mind what did everyone else think?

Moments of Awesomeness:

  • “There is a clown demon under the bed” game…coming to a store near you
  • The Re-return commercial
  • the Erickson family dinner and video prayer
  • Ted lying about still being in love with Robin so he can get the slap. It almost had me for a second.
  • Loved the final scenes of  of the episode, they were the best laughs of the night. Still…what mental torture. (more…)

The Playbook – Season 5 Episode 8 Discussion

Let’s begin by thinking of our fake names, shall we? Got it? I can’t tell mine cause I work for SNASA, I do have a small house on the SMOON though.

the playbook_barney2

Tonight’s episode was pretty funny. And while, I think (or maybe I should say hope) that the writer’s haven’t finished with Robin and Barney, it appears they are trying to throw us that way…moving on. There was so many great things about this episode.  Mainly Barney tonight. You see kids, when a man is as funny, original and awesome…oh wait, I’m not old Ted. Either way, his plays and winks were hilarious. There were so many catchphrases that I can’t even count. Reminds me of last week (the rough patch) when he was in the fat suit (that most people hated) and randomly threw out the line “catchphrase” at the end of a sentence. And though I would have loved to seen the entire Lorenzo Von Matterhorn play, I thought the Scuba Diver was awesome. And I’m wondering if the playbook will make it’s self to the published world much like the Bro Code and Bro on the Go

HIMYM s4e21 – Three Days Rule

himym_3days_rule_barney_teds_look

Download on iTunes: How I Met Your Mother - How I Met Your Mother, Season 4 - The Three Days Rule or get The Three Days Rule on Amazon

This was a great episode.  I didn’t get to watch last night because there is currently 1 TV in the room my wife and I are staying in and Chuck was on. Thus my being a nice husband is cause for a late viewing , recap and review. On the bright side, Chuck was pretty awesome last night, so there is that.

Despite the severely sacrilegious nature of it, Barney’s attribution of the 3 day rule to Jesus was hilarious. BTW, CBS posted the whole thing to youtube.  Marshall’s discomfort with the whole thing made it even funnier. I felt almost as bad watching it as I do when I watch Dogma. Whether it was scripted or adlib, NPH does such a great job of delivering those speeches. Wow everytime.

HIMYM s4e20 – Mosbius Designs

 HIMYM_mosbius_designs_ninja

So I have always been a Seinfeld fan and due to that particular addiction, a large part or tonight seems Seinfeld-isk. How I Met Your Mother, however took a completely different path than Kramerica Inustries…though there still may or may not have been a chicken somewhere. Most people are expecting a goat sometime soon though. The whole episode was very good I thought, other than the fact the bloody weather people kept cutting in to tell me about some tornado or something, what a bother! Still Ted’s struggle with side business, while comical, echoes a little too close to home.

On a different note, personally, I’ve always wanted to be a “that guy” in the office. Maybe toy guy would be a good choice. This episode also made the intentions of the writers clear. There will be a Barney/Robin story line for the end of the season. The fine fold at CBS (who hate our blog much more than have-you-met-ted.com, who get’s all the cool stuff) confirm that in several ways. So yea, funny episode. Not much Lily but when they can’t even hide Robin’s baby bump that well it’s probably just easier. Still lost of laughs…maybe once I get to re-watch the entire episode I’ll notice more. What did every one else think, feel free to fill me in.
